Hi everyone. I'm new to this group. I have a 10 year old son with

autism. Lately, he's been exhibiting some other behaviors that I can

only describe as obsessive/compulsive (taking a certain number of

steps before entering a room, opening and closing DVD cases multiple

times before putting them away, etc.). The problem is the

behaviors " come and go " He started exhibiting them last fall, then

abruptly stopped. He recently started again. My question is, do OCD

behaviors come and go? I don't know if its truly OCD or if there may

be other factors involved. Because he has autism, he can be affected

by many other outside sources (weather change, time change, etc.).

I'm cautious about taking him to a physician for " OCD like behaviors "

because they (Drs) have a tendency to immediately want to prescribe

something and I'm very, very cautious about medications. Does anyone

else have a child with on-again, off-again behaviors and how do you

handle that?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Sue
