Guest guest
We have an 18 yodd, with OCD, and a 20 yos with OCD. Mostly pure obsessives, both of them. However, when ds was a preschooler, he was always a lip licker, eye roller, would take deep breaths, muscles tensing then relaxing. He also had quite severe separation anxiety since he was born, basically, as unbelievable as that may sound. We noticed that almost immediately, he could sense if someone besides Mom was holding him. In second grade, he missed a lot of school because of coughing constantly. Numerous trips to numerous dr.s could not find anything to cause the coughing. He finally stopped. I still see some minor body things he does but nothing real noticeable if you weren't looking for it. Oh, he was always a big hand washer also. His lips and hands would always be red and chapped. NO ONE who we talked to about some of the " compulsions " ever linked it to OCD. It was not lifealtering at that time. I said to my Mom a few days ago, had I known what I know now, I would have pegged the OCD. He wasn't diagnosed until about 2 1/2 yrs ago. He kind of figured it out himself, although it was a year after his sister was diagnosed. I wonder if he was just too embarrassed to tell us about it. He also loved to hunt but finally confided in his that he was so afraid he was going to shoot someone with his gun. Anyway, I know others have also written but yes, it can be seen as early as 4.
