Guest guest
Jen, I have tried it for other pain but not the Stills. don't want anything in my lungs since I quit cigerettes. Brownies, now that is a thought, except, I am in the Stills weight loss group and they may not like it, I would be afraid of potential side effects or problems with the liver. I am also paranoid that they would find it in my blood test maybe because MN is so anal and they drug test everyone here. Not that I am a druggie or anything but I think we are way behind the times when it comes to pain control and if Marijuana or herion or opium work, then why not!! Lynn Renae Dudenhoefer lynndude@... -On any path that you may stroll, -keep your angel in your soul! -- medical marijuana question This post is going to talk about illegal drugs so if you dont want to read about it then deletenow. Okay, just wondering if anyone here has used marijuana for pain or possible muscle pain or trouble sleeping and if so does it seem to help? I know that for the states that do have the medical marijuana act arthritis is supposed to be one of the conditions allowed if your doc writes the script or has anyone tried the marinol pills? Unfortunalty I live in a state that doesnt allow it and I've at times wondered if this wouldnt be better than the pain meds with tylenol in it but I dont like to smoke in the first place so that's why I've never tried it, but I was told you could cook it in brownies, works the same as long as you do it correctly so that the THC releases in the cooking oil, but then you would get stoned and I dont really want that either, Im just sick of the darvocet/tylenol thing. It might work on some people, but they must be different from me. I've only smoked it once and had brownies twice. The smoke gives me real bad asthma attacks....even if I'm just in the same room and both times the brownies made me lose huge chunks of time. The only way I can see it offering relief is that you forget you are alive. Not my cup of tea. ***Im just sick of the darvocet/tylenol thing.*** Well....I never liked them, either. And forget narcotics! They make me itchy and it's hard to breathe. My drug of choice is 800 mg of Motrin one to three times a day. I take it with Prevacid. NOTHING else has ever worked on me and I think I have tried most arthritis pills. (wsm311@...) Thought I had to come out of the background and respond to this one. I hadn't used pot in years and years and about 6 months ago, tried some again and it was like a miracle. I was painfree and slept like a baby. However, as I began taking it - I needed more and more to get the same effect. And like our painpills, it seems to stop working after a bit. At least for me. But I stopped for a month and tried again and it worked again. As for me, it never has given me the munchies - lucky I know. Now I do it just every once in a while. Guest guest
, If the Marijuana ever becomes legal in Wisconsin...I'm first in line. (well, maybe not first, but in the line!) I've heard on a TV program, that the pill form isn't as effective as the smoke form. Putting it in..say..brownies is interesting. I too am so sick of the Darvocet, and Tylenol. It seems lately when I take either one, that they give me extreme insomnia, and " maybe " take the edge off off pain, and know they aren't good for the liver. ~~tricia~~ Wisconsin ***************************************************************************** -- medical marijuana question This post is going to talk about illegal drugs so if you dont want to read about it then deletenow. Guest guest
thanks everyone for your info, I cant take any NSAIDS at all so Im limited to tylenol or opiods for pain control and with my other hip on the verge of needing replaced Im having constant pain now and taking 4 Darvocet's a day, sometimes more which is not good. Lynn, I understand what you are saying about the liver, if you make it in the brownies then all the thc is metabolized in the liver and since it's fat soluble that is why it stores in your fat cells and can take a month to excrete fully from your body. I guess when smoking it bypasses the liver, but then you deal with the smoke/lung issues. But Ive been wondering if maybe even going the oral route if maybe it's safer on the liver than the tylenol. Cause we know what tylenol can do to your liver. What got me thinking about it recently is my next door neighbor has tourettes's syndrome and I was doing some research for him on botox injections for tourettes and I came across alot of info on marijuana use for tourette's so I mentioned it to him and he has used it and said it completely relieves his tics for several hours, sometimes up to 12 hours. Anyway in reading about how it helped tourette's it also went into that it could help with pain etc. And the other night I was up all night with my hip hurting and I took 2 darvocet and it still didnt relieve the pain, I hate when the pain is like that, thankfully the pain doesnt get that bad every day, most days I can tolerate the pain as long as I take darvocet or tylenol. So the more I read the more I wondered about it, then I read about how you could cook it, and how it chemically works when binded with a fat substance, it made sense and since I wouldnt have to smoke it, it became alot more appealing. Still havent made up my mind if Im going to try it or not, I may just to experiment, I pretty much lay around all weekend when Im not working anyway and do nothing so I guess the effects wouldnt be much of a change from my normal lifestyle at the moment. LOL.. Anyway, again thanks for your info and advice. GO DAWGS !!!!!

Guest guest
Hi Jen, Yes, I am still alive. As for marijuana, you betcha this one has been there. I've got mixed emotions. In the beginning, it did help. As my lungs got worse though, I was unable to smoke. Recently, I have tried it and the results have been disastrous. It seems that my pain actually intensifies rather than getting better and of course it doesn't help my lungs either. So, it's a moot point. I do like the idea of brownies. You get a buzz and control of your munchies if you get them. LOLOLOL. Unfortunately, for me, I'm not able to partake in it anymore. I'm still an old hippie at heart though! One of these days, hopefully it will be legalized. I definitely support legalization. Hang in there. Much love, Terry

Guest guest
Hi , Regarding the lung sensitivity, I didn't realize that marijuana had tar or nicotine. Isn't that the bad part of smoking regular cigarettes? I don't smoke but did grow up in the " flower child " era............. ) In those days I did not have any pain so I couldn't tell you if it would have helped or not. Being from California, I think marijuana is legal there for medicinal purposes but I'm not really sure. If I were in dire pain, I'd be hitting the street corners also or concerts as fast as these worn out knees would take me. Easy pickings there. I never knew anyone that could not function daily or that was addicted to it. I think one joint is far less dangerous than a six pack of beer. I've seen a lot of mean drunks but only mellow grass smokers. Heroin????? That's a different story! I'd be very afraid of trying that! Good luck, my dear.... xxoo Carmen

Isn't that the bad part of smoking regular cigarettes? There is 10 times the amount of tar in a joint than in a single cigarette... I won't get into the cancer causing ingredients in the smoke -- just take it from a former American Lung Association employee, if one must consume the substance, smoking ain't the best way to do it... I am SEVERELY allergic to something in the smoke of marijuana -- the last exposure I had was while at work at the pharmacy a couple of years ago. A guy came in and apparently had just put down his joint in the car before he came in -- it didn't even help him -- I walked past him to help another customer. By the time I sold them their RX my throat was closing up and I was breaking out in hives. Not a pleasant situation.. One question Jen, did I understand you correctly that Marinol was illegal in GA?? It isn't even a schedule II narcotic any longer! I can tell you it is available in FL... Have many patients on it -- some for eating, some for pain, some for both... Guest guest
NO Whackey Tobackie. I got this problem. Is called the old Piss Test. I am subjected to that old thang for a couple of reasons. 1st is because I am a licensed Pilot. Then the other is because of my job with the U.S. Dept of Transportation. Now the ole Piss test for the flight physical is pretty much a thang you know when is going to happen, but the RANDOM test is another thang. Years ago I got kinda interested on how that ole whackey tobackey would affect somebody that was sittin up in the front seat of a airplane. I took a friend who was in the Marines and set his old butt up in the cocpit with me and we went for a ride. He had toked a joint just prior to the flight. Ole Timmy did pretty good, just having a blast getting into the flight, I think he was thinking he was a bird or something. BUT when it came time to LAND that rascal, ole Timmy his eyes got REAL BIG. I was askin him how he was, he no talk at all. But when we landed all he could say was " WOW WHAT A RUSH " . He could not hardly walk when we got on the ground. Think he had the worst case of verdigo I ever saw in my life.
Guest guest
Kate, no I was talking about regular marijuanan for medical use is not legal in GA like it is out west for CA and other states. But, my neighbor did tell me that he asked his doc for marinol since the marijuana controlled his tics and his doc said they couldn't prescribe marinol in GA.. I didnt know why, I knew they could in Alabama when I worked at the assisted living facility we had a lady on it because of lack of appetite. So really I dont know if it is or not here. But I cant see why not. Is it no longer a schedule II drug? GO DAWGS !!!!!

Guest guest
Dan, Love your gift for putting the " words " together! I did read that after awhile the Marijuana isn't effective as at first, and then a good many people go on to Heroin. With all the great technology out there, I wonder why they can't come up with something better for pain that doesn't have any, (or managable) side effects...I know some of the pain meds help some very nicely, but there are others (like me) who for one reason or another either can not tolerate those meds, or they are ineffective. Jen, I am sorry you are in the " pain situation " with your hip that I've been in with shoulders and knee. Yes, most of my pain was at night also. Some bad times those were. The pain I experience now is mostly from the Periphial Neuoropathy, and that is being controlled by Neurontin. But, somewhere down the road when I have to have the bones fused in the right foot, I'm going to need some good pain meds that work....and there won't be any. The Morphine & Demoral I am now allerigc to. ~~tricia~~ Wisconsin p.s. Dan, I am happy that Timmy did get the plane landed! ***************************************************************************** ** -- Re: medical marijuana question NO Whackey Tobackie. Now all the different marinols have their own shelf... Maybe you should ask again -- or get an rx and take a trip down to FL....
