Good advice. I'd just add: no meat period is even better. And fresh-made juices are wonderful.

What would you recommend as the first step to changing an Autism and Aspergers Treatment diet. It seems many are very ridgid regarding change and suffer many sensory issues. Many have gag reflux from textured foods other's might be ocd. My son won't drink plain water...it has to be Propel. sunrose101@... wrote: Good advice. I'd just add: no meat period is even better. " no meat period is even better "

Unless you are vegan/vegetarian, meat is perfectly

fine. The body needs protien, lean protiens such as

fish, chicken and eggs are good choices. Many

vegans/vegetarians I know are protien deficit because

they don't know how to get adequate protiens from the

foods they are eating. Legumes(beans), tofu, nuts etc

are good sources of protien for non-meat diet.

You also need Essential Fatty Acids in the diet. These

feed the whole body and keep the absorption chain

complete. Without them you can't absorb minerals,

amino acids or enzymes. Quite often when working with

clients I've found they are deficit in all of these

nutrients and when added to their diet, diet changes

are made, exercise and mediation are implemented, a

significant change in healing takes place. My son does

much better when he is getting more Essential Fatty

Acids and protien, than when he doesn't.

Juices are good, but also very high in carbohydrates

and sugars. Juices that are processed and packages

ofter times have High Fructose Corn Syrup added to

them which is a by-product of the processing of corn

and is not good for the body. It increases the blood

sugar levels and forces the adrenals to work overtime.

This creates adrenal exhaustion, type 2 diabetes,

weight gain and increased sugar cravings. Juices that

are unsweetened and not from concentrate are a good

alternative to fresh when fresh is not available.

Alot of what I do with my clients is education on diet

and how to obtain wellness.

Meat contains L-tryptophan an essential amino acid

that is necessary for healthy nutrition.

I've had to be very creative in Steve's diet. He had

reflux so bad as a baby, nothing stayed down long. I

never allowed my kids to be choosy/picky about foods.

I simply tried different ways to make them appealing.

All of my kids eat very well now with little fussiness

about foods. Steve's favorite is a smoothie made with

plain protein powder and fruit. He won't eat eggs,

still gags on them and he's 20 now.

We eat a lot of pizza..lol Stir-fry and steamed

veggies. We're mostly vegetarian, meat is just too

expensive to serve every meal.

Funny you should say that about your mom changing labels. When I met my husband, everything he ate had to be the top name brand! However, once we were married, had a baby the following year and money got to be a bit tighter, he still wouldn't change certain brand name things - especially his iced tea mix, the brand name being $10 more than the store brand. I finally bought the store brand and put it in the name brand box and he said "I think they've changed how they make this. It was good before but it's way better now!" I laughed and laughed as I told him what I had done! He's been drinking the store brand ever since. He's never been diagnosed but is so much like our AS son I'm pretty sure he is also AS.

I hear that even when my kids didn't eat much they cost me an arm and a leg in meals. wow he has very distinguished tastes .I do not know if it will help but maybe you can contact the company that makes propel and see if they can send u coupons for you to get the water cheaper.Do you get ssi ,wrap around, case management you can get xtra money through ssi(although it is a pain and a long process most times) or you can get them (wrap around casemanagement ) they have funds set up for the kids that can go to getting gift cards for that water . each state calls their helping areas different names so in your area I do not know what they are called. a case manager for the mental health side or mental retardation side or both if they are both .they keep everything in one

place they can help you find ur wrap around and they have fss funds for the child so much is allotted to the child (I have used mine for idlewild passes its an amusement park ,I also used it for beds for the kids (different yrs of course)but if you can get this maybe they will do food stores where you can stock up on the water or foods he absolutely wont go with out to take the burden off your regular shopping money also look at places that have coupons and all u got to do is print them out you may find some for the stuff you regularly buy saving you more money to go towards the propel.hope this helps Vickie WwW.SparkleTags.Com----- Original Message ----From: jennifer . <ladyshelor@...>Autism and Aspergers Treatment Sent: Sunday, December 30, 2007 8:40:44 AMSubject: Re: Constipation was Re: Aspergers and bathroom issues

I can do that with some foods & drinks. Don't even try it with fast food he will know the minute he smells, touches or looks at it. Cereal is a little harder to tell most times. Pop-tarts he can tell by the pasty feeling. He can tell milk but I am going to try him on Rice Milk as soon as I find it. He can tell hot dogs, bread, cheese, and root beer soda. As for the water it has to be propel. I can't even dilute to make things last longer. With the little he eats he still costs me big $$$ to feed. Keep informed, Keep posting, Keep trying.
