Guest guest
Hi Lynn. I am on Oxycontin, and it seems to work pretty good most of the time. If you are in SEVERE pain, nothing really takes the pain away, but the Oxycontin has helped me through the last 1 1/2 years. I started out at 20mg twice a day, and am down to 10mg once a day. I have never felt " high " with this medicine, nor did I experience any sort of withdrawals when I lowered down on the dosage. I asked my doc once when she was talking about me getting off the pain meds if she could just change me to something like Percocet, and she said Percocet is even worse than Oxycontin. A lot of people are scared of Oxycontin, and some have had bad experiences with it, but I am thankful for it. Talk to your doctor about it and see what he/she thinks. Good luck and I hope you find one that works good for you. Love and hugs... Guest guest
Hi there Lynn, I am sorry you are having these bladder and pain management problems, just what you did not need I am sure! I generally us Viox every day which gives me some relief although about 1/2 of the time I have to supplement with Loratab 10/500 two to six tablets a day. I have some stronger stuff comparable to percocet for really bad pain and use it maybe only 15 times in six months or so, depending on how well controlled my Stills Disease is. This is the set up my daughter who is a medical professional helped arrange for me with my doctor this last 6 months. Things seem to be going well AS LONG as I am careful to get the REST I need. I have a tendency to ignore the clues my body gives me and overdo, especially when we travel or have grandkids visiting , lol. The drug you used, Ultram, never helped me at all, I don't know why. I have had some bladder/ renal problems these last two months and after the research posted yesterday I am wondering if the Viox might have something to do with that. I am trying tonight to research Viox a little. Was your doctor aware of all the meds, herbs, vitamins and stuff you take? Lots of medications/herbs/foods can irritate the bladder. I struggle to keep congestive heart failure [i have heart problems and a pace maker from damage to my heart from SD] under control and some of those medications, water pills, can cause bladder irritation, but I am sure it is more than that. Do you or any other Stilligans have any information concerning the types of renal problems that have been recently reported connected to Viox? Thanks for your info concerning braintalk.org, a very interesting site. We have discussed pain relief a lot on this site and I hope you and all other stilligangs hang in there with these docs to get the relief we need to live as comfortably as possible. It is needless in this day and age to suffer needlessly when there is so much available to us. Hope you are feeling better tonight friend, take care, Louise. Guest guest
Thanks Traci, I read a great book on chronic pain and they actually said that Oxycontin is the drug of choice for treating chronic long term pain. Too bad it got such a bad rap in the media a few years back and nw doc's are afraid of it. My doc will never give it to me.She thinks that using the dmards and nsaids should totally control my pain. Will run it by her anyway. Thanks again Lynn Renae Dudenhoefer lynndude@... -On any path that you may stroll, -keep your angel in your soul! -- Re: need pain med help/bladder probs. Hi Lynn. Guest guest
Louise, Thanks for your reply, I tried Celebrex and Vioxx about a year ago and they did nothing. I really did not think the Ultram was helping much either but I guess it really was. I initially asked for that because I knew it was not narcotic. My doctor knows all the meds I am on and just started having me take a multi vitamin and B6 with the folic acid. Those are the only supplements I take. I have had these weird bladder problems on and off for the past year. I thought I was past it, but it seems to be back with a vengeance. Glad you liked braintalk, I friend of mine in my hydrocephalus group just told me about it. What an amazing site! Guest guest
Hi Lynn, I tried Bextra. It didn't do anything for me, but we all different, and here is hoping that it will work for you. Unfortunately, he really hasn't given me anything for pain. I hate to say this, but I suffer, and when I am hurting, I return to the bed and whine. My rheumy has never really given me anything too much for pain. We tried Ultram and Bextra I hope that you can find something that works fro you friend. Love, Sue #2 -- need pain med help/bladder probs. Hi all, My doctor and I decided to stop Ultram for pain as it can cause some pretty serious problems when combined with the anti-depressant that I am on. She put me on sulpha sulfazine and Bextra. I just took 1/2 a percocet cause they are not working so well for the pain. I would like some ideas of what others are taking so I can ask for something else. I have percocet but I don't want to use such a strong narcotic unless I really have to and I know if I start using it every day they won't give me anymore. Also, does anyone else out there have bladder issues. I was running to the bathroom 25 times a day and in the past week that has increased and my bladder feels on fire. They checked me for an infection and I don't have one. They are thinking possible interstitial cystitis. Just curious to see if anyone else is having similar difficulties. Thanks a ton Lynn Renae Dudenhoefer lynndude@... -On any path that you may stroll, -keep your angel in your soul!
