Thanks so much for the info.

Lymphoid hyperplasia can happen in the intestine, interstitial areas (causing

pneumonia), and other locations. It is a clinical manifestation of CVID. I

hope your son feel better soon and that the lymphoid stuff is benign.

Take care,

mom to CVIDer

I'm sure there are other things that can be done to prevent pneumonia after

surgery, but I think our biggest mistake was not giving him nebulized

albuterol or Xopenex after surgery for a few days. The second was not

putting him on an antibiotic. We had stopped his prophylactic antibiotic in

the spring, but the Ped shrugged off my suggestion to put him back on

something after surgery. I think this was an especially big error since

Evan had a pretty bad pneumonia six months ago. I'll make sure that doesn't

happen again. The Ped did have him using a spirometer to encourage deep

breathing, but evidentally that doesn't always work by itself. We were also

instructed to have him use it every two hours, but he probably should have

been doing it more frequently. Needless to say, I learned a lot this time

(it was Evan's first surgery). Thankfully the other kids have never had

this problem with past surgeries!

Take care,

Evan (12, unknown immune deficiency, asthma and mild hearing loss/unaided),

and Kelsey - (10, unknown immune deficiency and asthma)
