Guest guest
It DOES seem to be a big problem for many of our kids. We currently have started Olivia(non pid kid, so far) on Miralax, and super high fiber, and it seems to be working well. This wasnt mentioned when Savannah was in the hospital for tummy troubles a few months ago but GI did mention something about it, of course once they found she DIDNT have celiac, they all lost interest in her(she was an interesting case up to that point), and I plan to ask about the Miralax for her too. I would use Olivia's on her to see if it helped but they are different weights and I am not sure about the dosage. And of course its the holiday weekend. Unfortunately we started the Miralax just as we left for our of state this last week and WOW did we make a lot of potty stops!! LOL but at least its working. Olivia is 10 and very receptive to the treatment..........she says she will do anything to avoid THAT KIND OF EXAM again EVER!!!! LOL I also found helpful the dietician came in and actually gave us a list of foods to help and showed me how to figure the grams per pound ratio for a kid, which is way more helpful than just " eat more fiber " . Both of my sons have had to have a Nissen for reflux/aspiration/floppy muscle there and following that, Donovan had a loooooooong time (like, nearly a YEAR)when he would not realize he was BM'ing until it was in his pants. The surgeon said that couldnt have been from the nissen, of course he had been potty trained shortly before and I dont know........but he had done very well up to that point. He is now two yrs post nissen and still gets very constipated. IF someone is in the bathroom a long time he will knock on the door and holler, " Hey, do you think a book would help? " LOL I get frustrated when drs think I am just feeding them bread and doughnuts and not healthy foods........I know its the easy thing to think but I really do try hard to feed them well and I KNOW this isnt b/c of the foods they are/arent eating. Of course the flip side of that is that many PID'ers are very picky eaters or have a load of food intolerances/allergies(like mine) and its not just the easiest thing in the world to feed them a rote list of foods. and I CANNOT express enough how perfectly lovely it is to discuss poop and related problems in this group, b/c where else can you really talk about it? LOL valarie mom to olivia savannah donovan and brennan P.s.--how rotten did I feel when the GI dr discovered the source of Olivia's continued rectal bleeding upon exam last week was multiple tears/fissures that have reopened and closed over the last yr? oh, such a rotten mommy. I had NO IDEA this was such a problem.....but Olivia is so darn GIRLY that she does not discuss poop nor the bathroom nor anything that may happen in there, ever, at all, so how COULD I know? but I still feel terrible.
