Guest guest
I would just say she was homeschooled for awhile, but decided she wanted to be back at regular school. Does anyone at school know about her OCD? Good for her for being able to go back. Sharon returning to school Has anyone had a teen on homebound instruction due to OCD/depression? My daughter, a high school junior, has not been to school since before Thanksgiving. Her doctor has put her on homebound instruction, which has not begun yet. Her school has told us that if her meds kick in over break, she can still have the homebound for what she missed, while she returns to school at the same time. She has missed over 30 school days. She seems like she is finally improving and we would like her to try school next week. One of the big obstacles, in her mind, is how to handle the questions about where she has been during all the time she hasn't been to school. This is kind of freaking her out, any ideas? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Kim, So she hasn't had any friends yet ask? Just thinking that rumors/guesses as to why she's out might have already begun unless any friends have been telling others something in particular. If she doesn't mind telling a " white lie, " she could say she had mono or something like that, where it takes more than a couple weeks to get past it, tire extremely easy after having it...and that the school let her do homebound the latter 3 weeks or so. You might also ask those at the school who are aware of the truth, what teens usually say in same/similar situation. Over all the years working at a school, you'd think they might have some experience with this! (not OCD but kids being out for various reasons) > > Has anyone had a teen on homebound instruction due to OCD/depression? Guest guest
My son has been out since the end of October. He is a freshman in high school and has OCD/depression. We have initiated the process for an IEP but in the interim he attends 2 or 3 classes at school each morning and has other subjects taught as home hospital. The special teachers meet with him at the local library or at the guidance office in the high school for the subjects he does not cover in school. This has yet to produce any consistent workload or a normal schedule. Its a work in progress and is intended to reduce his stress from the workload he would normally get with full-time attendance. My son tells me that when kids at school ask him he is pretty up front with them and tells them that he has OCD. I don't know if that will work for you daughter but some of her friends may be understanding. In late October, our son had left school premises without permission and the police had to be called etc. This was a real nightmare; the episode occurred in front of a cafeteria full of students so there were allot of false rumors going around as to what happened. I hope all works out well. Tom returning to school Has anyone had a teen on homebound instruction due to OCD/depression? Guest guest
Kim, Maybe she could say something like she has really bad headaches and they haven't been able to find a medication that works. Just a thought. Glad she's getting better. Patty > > Has anyone had a teen on homebound instruction due to OCD/depression? Guest guest
Hi Kim, My daughter who is in 7th. grade is going through the same thing. She will be slowly going back to school on Jan 2. Her ocd has keep her home for most of the school year. She also has had kidney stones and bladder infections to add to her fear of throwing up. She is just going to tell kids that she has had kidney problems. Just tell you daughter to blame it on a health issue that kids will understand better. Patty's idea about migraine headaches sounds really good. Good luck! I'll be praying that she will make a successful return to school. God bless, Becky ntrop31 <ntrop31@...> wrote: Kim, Maybe she could say something like she has really bad headaches and they haven't been able to find a medication that works. Just a thought. Guest guest
I would also ask school what to say. Surely they have had other kids out for extended times in the past. Guest guest
How about saying that you gave homeschooling a try but it did not work out? mnmomof1@... wrote: Has anyone had a teen on homebound instruction due to OCD/depression?
