Dear Cheryl,

Our psychiatrist suggested, and I agreed, to take Annie off all meds

last fall because he wanted to get a " baseline " again. We couldn't see what

was OCD, ADHD or medication side effects. Well, all I can say is that we

certainly learned that she still has serious OCD and definetly needs the

medication just now!!! It got ugly pretty quickly (within 4-6 weeks anyway).

Just now she is having such a tough time with her OCD again - it's

just about killing me to have to deal with this all over again!!! I'm just

starting to count the days until school is out so that she won't have all

that to deal with on top of the OCD stuff.

Well, I have to admit that things are not as rosey as we would like them to be.

However, there are some really great things going on also! After going through

all the school problems (IEP and then finally just dropping out and getting a

GED instead), I am happy to report that my daughter is (finally) going to finish

the last two classes she needs for her Associate Degree in Interior Design in

the Winter Quarter! Even if she is going to take those two classes through an

independent work class, I am so very proud of her for hanging in there and

getting this Degree!! She has really been through so much (meds, therapies, not

to mention problems with " friends " and family who do not understand) and I hope

this degree will be a reminder to her of how strong she really is. You know, she

still goes through all the stuff I've read about here (wanting to save finger

nail clippings, has been thru the cutting stage, to this day won't flush the

toilet and usually clogs it!, has very poor

hygiene, coughs continuously and I could go on . . .) because she hasn't found

that " magic " pill yet that will save the day. She is med-free right now by

choice (having been through every SSRI, antipsychotic, anti-seizure and

tranquilizer made) because she doesn't like the side effects and is hoping now

that the ERT she is participating in will get her thru for a while. Did I

mention 90-95% of her day is spent in obsessions/rituals?!?! She is the most

creative and brilliant person I have ever known, and I feel so blessed to have

her as my child. It took me so long to come to terms (acceptance) with the OCD.

We wish/want so much for our children. However, I would have never learned so

much about unconditional love and patience without it!! Yes, I wish I could take

it all away from her. And then I see her make a baby step forward!!! Gotta run

for now, but my sincerest best wishes to all!!! Cheryl
