Guest guest
, I would be concerned, but not panicked or anything. Of course I am not a doctor.. I am just speaking from my experience. My boys walk around with white counts between 2.1- 3.9 (sometimes get into the 4s) Do you happen to know what his ANC (absolute neutrophil count) is/was? When looking at the CBC and/or a low white count, several things need to be taken into consideration. (see websites below for more info) Of course, we get excited when they are sick and their WBCs eek up. A lot of times they just sit there at the same low numbers..but we have actually had a few white counts hit 5.0 when they are sick! We've got a lot of information on WBC counts on our SDA website message board www.shwachmandiamondamerica.org <http://www.shwachmandiamondamerica.org/> and I also have a page on neutropenia on our family webpage-it explains the relative and absolute count portions of the CBC, etc... and tells you how to figure out the absolute counts by multiplying with the WBC, etc.. www.shwachman.50megs.com Peace Be With You, ~Pattie~ " What matters is not great deeds, but great love. " ~ St. Therese of Lisieux I'm curious to know if anyone can tell me how concerned I should be by a low white count for Conner. This is something we haven't had to deal with yet. His ID doc mentioned that he was a little concerned by this, but I haven't heard back from the immuno yet. I think his count was around 3. Also, we've noticed that his troughs are on the low side and his IgA is continuing to drop even lower. He gets 25 grams of Gammagard every 3-4 weeks and his IgA has dropped to 15 and IgG is 558. He's actually been fairly health recently, but is complaining of being tired and not much of an appetite - he's lost 10 pounds over the last few months. Guest guest
, For many of our kids, a low counts are consistent with CVID. My kiddo's WBC was 2.6 a few weeks ago and some of the mom's here said it might have been due to a virus...but I don't have her new numbers yet. Anyway, Conner may have some more complicated stuff going on so do make sure the docs are aware of the drops. Maybe he needs IVIG every 3 weeks instead of every 3-4 weeks? 528 is pretty low and his weight loss may be the clinical sign that he needs higher numbers until a better treatment is available for him. Just thinking... Hope you are doing okay. I just wrote you a quick note directly. Take care, mom to CVIDer
