Guest guest
Hi everyone, I wanted to let the group know that Chelsea has had another anaphalatic (sp??) reaction today not to SCIG but to a new antibiotic she has been on for over 2 1/2 weeks (CIPRO) for double ear infection. At around 5:30 am she was having shortness of breath and thought she was just dreaming so when I went to wake her for school at 6:15 she looked at me and struggled to tell me she could not breathe. I called 911 and they rushed her to the hospital near my house and was then transferred to her normal hospital where her Ped/ID doc is and was placed in Ped ICU until this evening when they moved her to a regular floor on Pediatrics. Chelsea is so brave and an AWSOME patient but I can see in her eyes she is tired of it all. The ID doc confirmed that the ear infection is still not clear so they started Chelsea on Gentimican and one other IV antibiotic which means a few more days in the hospital so I know she is not happy about that. I think I just needed some extra support and thought were better to get it than from my PEDPID family. Hopefully the Gentamiacin and other antibiotic will work without side effects and she will be able to return home. Please let her know others are thinking about her. And please keep us updated about her progress. mom to , 16, CVID, chronic migraines, suspected autoimmune dis. Guest guest
Marlo - You are too kind. We are in SCV. I may try to attend the SQ conference at UCLA next weekend -- I am sure we will cross paths at some point. Actually, it is possible that I met you in San Diego a few months ago... I hope that Chelsea is able to go home soon -- at which point you will probably become our resident expert on autoimmune disease. I may ask you some questions... Thinking of you guys. Guest guest
That is so cool that you are so close to us. We are not sure if we are attending the UCLA day as it is a conflict with our schedule. I am heading to the Hospial now to have breakfast with Chelsea and hopefully get her discharged before her next antibiotic dose. Our Home Health nurse is coming today to show me how to infuse her antibiotics here at home. We were at the NICE weekend in Carlsbad I was with my Mom and Chelsea was the one who got the Black eye playing in the pool. :-0) My little Bruiser..... Guest guest
Hi , Yes we are home YEAH!!! We have just begain our second dose of IV Antibiotics and it is too easy. I am so relieved. Chelsea is still pretty tired and her gut has been doing a number on her but the Mylanta seems to be working. The PICC line is giving her a bit of pain due to all the brusing My husband and I are thinking about keeping her our of school while she has the PICC line I am so afraid of her getting any additional infections. I hope I am not being to paranoid. I will meet with the Principal tomorrow and I think our IEP meeting is this week too. Thank you for support it really helped both Chelsea and I to get through this very difficult time. Bri is about the same--I am trying to get him to see the Doc at the medical school who specializes in fungal sinus infections. So far, that is like getting an appointment with the President. There are only two more weeks of school, so I'm anticipating him being able to rest as much as he needs. I'm sure Chelsea is going to be doing the same--hopefully you, too!! Guest guest
Sandi, I hope gets into the specialist sooner than later. I have decided to keep Chelsea home although her School nurse has taken care of kids with Ports and PICC lines before, I think Chelsea just needs some more rest. Keep us posted on 's appt with the specialist.
