Guest guest
This is something I recieved a while back on the vaccines, thought since the subject has been asked about them I would post this. Please report the story that is going in the UK and affects everyone here in the US regarding measles virus and gut problems with children with autism. I see nothing here in the US but it is all over the UK in the TV (Panorama-BBC), radio and newspapers including the BBC. This is real science and real issues and it needs to be public. See the article and URL below. http://jcp.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/55/1/DC1 >From the Daily Mail (UK) today. FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN THESE CHILDREN by Beezy Marsh Scientists called on the government to carry out fresh investigations into claims of a link between MMR, autism and bowel disease. Virus and immunology specialist Dr Alan said state funded research was needed after a study showed a possible link between measles, autism and a bowel disorder. He said the further studies would help determine whether certain children are unable to cope with jabs of the measles virus. Calls for ministers to take seriously research which raises questions over the live measles virus come amid fears of a widespread outbreak of the illness. Controversy over MMR has grown despite backing for the triple jab from the World Health Organisation, the British Medical Association, the Royal College of Nursing, The Royal Colleges of Paediatricians and GPs, and the Community Practitioners and Health Visitors' Association. Dr , a reader in biological sciences at the University of Warwick in Coventry, sits on the editorial board of the prestigious British Medical Association Journal Molecular Pathology. He reviewed the article which furthered controversy over MMR. A team of experts led by Professor O'Leary, molecular pathologist at Coombe Women's Hospital in Dublin, carried out studies which showed that the measles virus is present in the guts of autistic children who suffer from the bowel disorder. This appeared to back theories put forward by bowel disease expert Dr Wakefield. He had identified a new variant of bowel disease in a group of autistic children. It was Dr Wakefield who in 1998 first suggested a link between MMR and autism. He resigned from his job at the Royal Free Hospital earlier this year, claiming he was forced out because of the MMR controversy. In the O'Leary study, biopsies from the guts of 91 children with autism and the new bowel disease were compared with 70 samples from healthy children. Measles was found in the guts of 83% of the autistic children, compared with only in 7% of healthy children. The study did not look at whether the children had been given MMR and Professor O'Leary insisted: 'The research did not set out to investigate the role of MMR in the development of either bowel disease or development disorder, and no conclusions about such a role could, or should, be drawn from our findings.' But Dr said: 'As a scientist I would like to know what is going on with these children. Dr Wakefield has discovered a very interesting problem. Certainly there should be more studies, and they should be Government funded. I want to know more about this phenomenon. 'What is going on in these children in the way the measles virus is inter reacting? 'What Wakefield has done is identify a group of children that should possibly be very carefully looked after and not have live vaccine stuck in them. 'It's a complex phenomenon of multiple things going on, leading to a number of conclusions - bowel disorder, development disorder and potentially a peculiar response to viruses. 'There may be immunological disorder in these children. It might be interesting to find out if these children have immunological disorders that results in the failiure to control measles.' He said research would also need to look at whether MMR of single vaccine posed a risk. The Department of Health yesterday said it was reviewing the Molecular Pathology research paper. A spokesman added: 'there are many studies that have already been carried out which have all concluded the MMR is totally safe. We will of course study this peer reviewed paper in due course.' Doctors were accused of 'culling' patients from their practice lists in order to get Government cash for meeting MMR immunisation targets. A mother who did not want MMR for her three year old said on the Radio 4 Today programme yesterday that she was told by the manager of her health centre in Haringey, North London, that the child had been taken off the list to help the doctor reach the targets. The BMA called for an end to the Department of Health system which links uptake of vaccines to financial incentives.
