Guest guest
That sounds very much like the Anchor Hocking cookie jars. They are great for brewing. Lead free and made in the USA. Just remember that the total volume of the container is one gallon, so by the time you leave the one to two inch headspace recommended you are actually brewing about seven pints, not eight! Guest guest
The brew needs to breathe, suggest a cloth secured with rubber bands. zoe sprawlingoaksfarm wrote: > Greetings!! > > I have been having so much fun brewing my KT, even though I've only been doing it a few months, I am enjoying the fruits of my labor tremendously... and now even my husband is beginning to indulge, which means I need to make even MORE kombucha. > > So I went to the store to find some more glass bowls to have more batches brewing at the same time, and I actually found this gallon-sized, clear glass jar that came with a glass lid. I know most directions say to cover with a cloth, but I figure that is because many of us brew in mixing bowls, which don't naturally have a lid. Or does the kombucha need to breathe, and that is why a cloth is needed? Guest guest
I missed that bit, but ditto, Zoe! Thanks for clarifying! A cloth or Viva paper towel held over the top for breathing. Viva is great as it is very thick and none of the baddies will get through, but! Use the second or third one on the roll so that you are using one that has not been subjected to whatever is floating around in the kitchen air!!!
