Hi ,

Sounds like you have a good idea in mind for fitting in strength training along with your commutes. 12 hour days are tough! Take care,

Donna

Hi everybody,Last week consisted of a 3 mile walk on Monday, and then approximately 5 miles of bike commute each day from Tuesday through Saturday. I did multiple, short yoga sessions on my bike days. I'm resting today. Work was very busy last week, and I'm still adapting to riding my bike in traffic, and the entire change in routine. I leave at 7 a.m., and I get home at 7:00 p.m. I have a 35 minute train commute (each way), but I have to add extra time in the morning in case of train delays. It was exhausting, but good. I read everybody's posts on the run on my Blackberry, but just didn't have a chance to respond the way I wanted to.Next week???I could reasonably add half an hour of additional strength or KB on two of my commute days. I'm trying to figure out how to do that. I'll work Tuesday through Saturday this coming week. I'll probably ride my bike most days. Next week:Monday: Kettlebell Way +

yogaTues: Bike commute + yogaWednesday: Iron Core Way KB Express + bike commuteThursday: Bike or walk commute + yogaFriday: Iron Core Way KB Express + bike commuteSat, Bike commute + stretching.

Sunday: R.E.S.T.!!!I think that I could try a similar formula on other weeks. I could do Chalean Xtreme on Wednesdays and Fridays, and maybe an STS or something like Cathe's Power Hour on Mondays. I don't want to neglect resistance training.I'm still tracking my food, still making slow, but steady progress. I'm feeling a bit leaner.

Happy Workouts,

Oh , my commute is across the bay from SF. I do have a grade to deal with, but no official hills. I start in Hayward, and zip downhill to BART where I get on the train. I get out in Berkeley and zip downhill to Emeryville. The trip home is reverse. I have to deal with going uphill all the way, but my route isn't steep.

I just looked it up and the climb is 130 feet over 2.5 miles. Downhill in the morning, uphill in the evening.Tomorrow we're expecting it to be icy and in the 20's, which is cold for here. It snowed in the Bay Area last night!! I'm a little worried about my tires. I have slicks which are nice and fast on pavement, but I might decide to walk if it's icy tomorrow.

It's an adjustment, Donna. There are some good things about it, though. I've got exercise built in to the commute, so it gives me a good baseline for my workouts. It also gives me time to read or listen to audio books on the train. When the train's on time, I get to work early. I just find a quiet spot, sip my smoothie, and continue to read. I also have time for a good post-ride stretch.

Fellow west coaster, that's what it is in Portland right now.  I've turned into a sicle!  My plans for tomorrow got cancelled and I suppose I could go see Noel but the thought of bussing and walking out in the cold more than I have to makes me think I want to do Cardio Combat Surge with the Amp'd Bar instead.

Oh my!!!! sicle!!! I don't know that workout, but in context, it sounds evil!!!  Stay warm and safe. It doesn't get this cold very often. I just saw in the news that the snow level is at 300 ft in areas, and that it's in the hills right above me in Hayward - just a mile or so away from my home. WEIRD. We're so much further south from you. I'm happy to see it on TV. I feel like cocooning today.

I'm feeling lucky that I found a pair of lined rainboots at Ross for $19.99 yesterday. I've got a long raincoat, and I can do layers and gloves. I think I'll walk tomorrow. I just can't afford to take an icy spill from a bike when I don't have any PTO saved up.

I'm so grateful to be home right now. (It's my Sunday.)On Mon, Dec 7, 2009 at 9:47 AM, Pink Pussycat <pinkpussycat@...> wrote:
