Yoga strap?

I find it necessary depending on my flexibility at the moment, but you can

always use a man's necktie instead! I got my strap on clearance / going out of

business sale. I have another less sturdy one that I got free with a dvd box

set of Rodney Yee's dvd's.

Everyone's got such great ideas. Thanks for the suggestions!

My back is okay today, though most of my issues are the sciatic nerve down my leg when I'm sitting, which is why I'm seeing

the specialist on Friday. Apparently, any butt/leg issues are associated with the back, and I need to find out if this is true

sciatica. My regular doc gave me the go-ahead to exercise again, but I'm not going to until I see this specialist. I'm itching to start moving again - as long as it doesn't cause any future pain! Thanks for asking. :-)

Hi Terri,

I use one sometimes - the need for it sort of varies depending on how flexible you are feeling. I believe the intent is to allow you to get a deeper stretch without compromising your posture/alignment. For instance, sometimes I can do a reclined hamdstring stretch by holding on to my calf and pulling my leg toward me, while still keeping a neutral spine, other times, I can't do that and the strap is helpful. Like mentioned, you don't need an "offiical" yoga strap - you can use a necktie or even a belt in place of an "offiical" yoga strap!

How are you doing? How is your back?

Has anyone here ever used a yoga strap?

If so, how necessary is it?

hi terri! i do use a strap at times, but you could just use a

resistance band instead. my strap lets me make a loop at each

end, so i can easily put my foot or hand in there, which is

helpful. i got it really cheap somewhere for, like, $3 !!

I use it for some of my classes, but usually it is just to help the people

who are less flexible with being able to get a deeper stretch. I'd say if

you can touch your toes comfortably, then you don't need a yoga strap.
