Guest guest
Hello all, Just got back from the doctors office - LFTs do not look good. ALT - 241 norm 40 - 120 AST - 330 norm 10 - 40 GGT - 156 norm - 12 - 43 AMMONIA - 97 NORM 9 - 33 The ultrasound says the liver looks fine but there's a "shadow" on my gall bladder & my spleen is enlarged. Got the echo cardiogram which said my heart is normal but my aorta is getting blocked (slowly) Not bad enough to do anything but schedule another echo cardiogram in 6 months to a year. My doctor wants me to do an overnight oximatry - to check for sleep apnea. She says she won't prescribe anything for my insomnia until she gets the oximetry report - go figure. Anyways, I seem to be doing just fine thank you. I just wish I could get more than 3 hours sleep at a time Love to All, SuZie & SpYke Next time I'm coming back as a cat SuzieQ... Did we get some answers today suzie?..Let us know ..Praying it is good...Im waiting...Love ya, Pattycakes

Guest guest
Hey Pattycakes, As far as I know we've got nothing planned for the spleen or gall bladder. As I understand it an enlarged spleen is not that unusual in someone with HCV, we're going to keep an eye on the gall bladder, after all, it's just a shadow. Yes the numbers are high but they've been higher so I'm not worried about them. I've got an appointment with Dr Idiot next Tues & I'll wait & see what he says. My family doc kinda rushed me & won't give me copies of my test results but Dr I will, so I'll know more next week. I'm pretty sure my platelets are low - I bleed like crazy & you could bruise me with a look. Don't worry, I'm not, SuZie Next time I'm coming back as a cat SuzieQ... Guest guest
Hi Suzie, Sorry to hear the news!! Seems like they are doing the right thing for you now. I went through 2 sleep studies this year. They want to put me on a CPAP machine at night to sleep. Also, the dr. gave me an Rx called ReQuip. It is given to people with Parkinson's, but he gave it to me for restless leg syndrome. It seems like I sleep a little better on the medicine. Anyways, with my insurance, I would have to pay $650 for the machine. I just don't really want it for that amount of $$. The results of my study showed that I wake up once every 59 seconds. I told the dr. that he would wake up constantly too if he was hooked up to a bunch of wires and in a strange bed all night long. Plus, I knew they were taping me and I was really self conscience about drooling or something worse in my sleep!! HA! So, I decided to get on Ebay and look for a machine. There weren't any, which is okay. The machine is very confining for me. I get so clausterphobic over other things, I just can't imagine wearing that mask all night long. I told my friend that I would never get a man having to wear the mask like that. Hehehehe!! You should check into it though because apnea can cause an enlarged heart, at least that's what the dr. told me. For now, I just can't do the CPAP machine, maybe later. Keep me updated!! Guest guest
Heyyyyy Toots You sound like you are feeling good and yep it could be a lot worse. Honey if you go for a TP your gallbladder comes out too but you don't get a spare for that one. It's common sense and an easy solution but why aren't such important lab norms and results on a universal scale when HCV and many other diseases are worldwide in epidemic form. It would be much less confusing for Dr's and pt's with less medical errors. Many Canadians use the states for liver TP's and even our liver panels and ALT have much lower norms. ALT norm here is usually about 50 ALT - 241 norm 40 - 120 The ratio and difference between AST and ALT is also considered as a medical marker. WHO - World Health Organization has tried to standardized many lab norms and pt care but with not much cooperation and success. It's amazing in this day and age that even forms of testing and lab values are not even standardized between labs and here in the states even medical care and trmt isn't either. No wonder pt's are so frustrated and on so many anti d's. It's the medical profession itself that is causing some of our frustrations and stress. Love and Hugs.
