when separating the mother and baby scoby

Sometimes the baby forms connected to the mother, and they are hard or

impossible to separate. is it bad to rip them apart? will it kill

them? what happens if a hole gets ripped in one or the other? i feel

bad taking them apart but i want to have multiple batches going at the

same time!
