Hi Kathy,and thanks Pat.

Hi in BC,I was diagnosed in 1997 also.Went down very quick to ESLD and transplant,so glad you're not taking that path.

Just got back from in Saint Louis. My forth biopsy was the worst.I didn't know they only did them with a local,it was horrible.Just when I got the folks at KU med CTR in Kansas City trained.

The pop was the loudest I have ever heard and it hurt.I should have been more prepared and asked how they do them there.I just assumed they would give me some pre med.Ouccccchhhhhh.

Hi Sorry you had a rough time. I don't know if it's the fact we are PTP with adhesions and so much has been done in that area or if they are doing more aggressive bx's on us or in general. I have had about 7 or 8 bx's at least 1 per year but the bx's since TP have become more involved and much more painful with soreness being black and blue at first than increasing soreness for a few days afterwords. My last 2 bx's I was sore as hell and black and blue for 2 weeks. The last time they used a long punch type handle bx gun and it did sound like a shot being fired and I felt the punch a lot more not once but twice 2 different locations to obtain enough different tissue from different areas. Liver bx's are now recommended 1.5 to 2 cm long 1 to 1.4 cc wide with as much portal triads as possible where junctions are located. "Adequate specimens are at least 1.5 cm long, but accuracy is better for specimens 2 cm long and the best results are obtained with specimens that are at least 2.5 cm long," he said. Likewise, specimens should be at least 1 mm wide but 1.4 mm is better and 2.0 mm is the best. Moreover, he said that at least six portal triads are needed but "11 is better." Soon it will be a large resection of liver for an accurate bx and to rule out many things and infiltrates from rejection. I was promised something for pain prior but it turned out I was again not given anything like you this time - why ????? Longer and more complex post-op care, charting and work for staff ?????? If no sound medical reasoning why no pains meds or twilight is given it is a shame to put us through this and more suffering. Buddy sorry and hope your soreness goes away soon and great bx results for you. Love and Hugs. Deb

They didn't give me anything more than the freezing the first time either. Ouch. the second try they gave me 10 mg valium i v. Nothing, then they offered Demerol for pain after, I said "No thanks" The third time they did it laproscopically - they knock you out & go in through a "small" incision in your belly button. They finally got a sample & I got the results - cirrhosis. The same thing happened this past year. The Gastro refused to try so they sent me to a surgeon who tried a "guided" biopsy. He ended up doing a laproscope. There's a cap of scar tissue just where they usually go for the biopsy. Consider yourself lucky . Talk is cheap. Use Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min.

Sorry

to hear it, . I think everyone everywhere should get happy meds in

addition to the local for a biopsy. They had to triple dose me with the happy

meds and I never felt them. I hollered out when he stuck me. He asked if he

surprised me – I said NO, IT hurt! Anyway, when do you get results?
