Are varnish fumes harmful?

Hi,

One of my housemates just sanded and varnished the living room floor.

I keep my kombucha in my room down the hallway. The smell of the

varnish has been pretty noxious, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if

it's harmful to the kombucha since it feels harmful to me!
