Even a tiny piece will make a batch and a new scoby, although it may take

longer the first tiem. Realize that all it is is Bacteria and Yeast so even

when you put a tiny piece in you are introducing it to the batch. The new

one that forms will take the shape of the jar you put it in.

May I suggest you either ask around for a larger jar or go to Walmart and

buy one for about $4. It will be so much easier to keep track of. But if you

must use a bunch of little jars for now, make a batch of sweetened tea, let

it cool and almost fill your jars with the tea. Plop a piece of SCOBY in

each one and top off with some finished tea. Secure a piece of paper towel

or tee shirt with a rubber band and you will be good to go. You do realize,

however, that if you do 6 small jars that at the end of the brew time you

will now have 6 SCOBYs!

I have a large pickle jar going right now, and have a backup scoby I

would like to use, but only have smaller containers. Can I slice her

in half, or is that a bad idea??
