Guest guest
Hi everyone, My son is going to be in the science fair at school and I thought it would be neat if he could use some of my scobies for his project. I have been trying to think of a way of how to do/present this. Do any of you have any ideas? Thank you, Teri
Guest guest
How about taking pictures each day for 1-2 weeks showing the progressive growth of a scoby and then investigating and illuminating how it benefits the bacteria in the human digestive system? Guest guest
Suggestions: A comparison of how good bacteria is introduced and used to preserve foods. Two jars of sugared tea. One with just the sugared tea. The other with sugared tea and kombucha SCOBY and starter. Could get nasty in the uninnoculated jar. This is the basic " science experiment " we perform on a regular basis when making KT. KT will also preserve/ferment pasteurized milk, but the results of the uninnoculated milk might be too nasty/smelly to present at a fair. You could try it with something like cucumbers/pickles, too. I am assuming that raw cucumbers stuffed into a jar with just water and no salt added (the control jar) will probably not have enough good bacteria present to preserve themselves. In the other jar place pickles, pour strong KT over them and then stuff a hunk of SCOBY in there for effect. This has a certain amount of Wow/Yuk factor when your son reaches into a jar to snag that SCOBY, pulling it out to display. Very impressive for folks who've never seen one before. If he has a microscope he could prepare slides of the different bacteria, noting which one are predominant in each jar. -PattyT > > Hi everyone, > > My son is going to be in the science fair at school and I thought it > would be neat if he could use some of my scobies for his project.
