Guest guest
All, I bought two of these jars a few months ago when I thought I was going to do a continual milk kefir brew (but wound up realizing that that’s WAY too much milk kefir). I bought two of them because I justified the cost of shipping for the price of two rather than one (it was more reasonable). What I love about these jars – and I have two set up for continual Kombucha brews (one green tea, one puer-lu tea) is that not only are they continual brews, but also you can put the lid on it. They come with a soft, pliable piece of plastic that you put over the rim of the top. This piece has raised ridges which allows for some ventilation when the cover is on – which reduces if not eliminates the evaporation (you can see the beads on liquid forming on top of the cover). You can also fill it to such a level where you can a GI-NORMOUS scoby!!! The one thing I would caution is that you use caution when inserting the spigot. The first one dripped a bit until I screwed it in further (even though the directions say only 2 or 2 ½ turns) and then it was fine. So test the spigot first before setting up a full batch…and make sure you let it sit for 20 minutes or so because mine started to leak after the fact and not while I was testing it! P.S. I want to thank Gayle and everybody else for helping me enter into the amazing and WONDERFUL world of Kombucha Tea – I LOVE IT :-) _____ From: kombucha tea [mailto:kombucha tea ] On Behalf Of psandcs Sent: Friday, January 09, 2009 11:24 AM kombucha tea Subject: Re: in need of ideas for supplies I use a lead-free water crock that I found very reasonably online. - > > i am beginning this kombucha journey today (just got my first scobys > yesterday!) but am needing some suggestions as to where i should get > that large glass jar.. any suggestion would be great > > Margaret >
