Guest guest
IMHO GT Daves is a really poor way to get started. None of his taste very good to me. best to grab a scoby from someone on the list. Once upon a time I would have been happy to offer, but alas I now live where there is no mail service and I only have transportation about once every 2-3 months. zoe amyjo wrote > I bought a bottle of GT Daves Raw Kombucha the Original > Flavor...there is a scoby in it....I was told I could use it as my > starter...When I opened the bottle (my first taste of Kombucha) it > seems to have a metal taste to it...I did not have much carbonation > in it...It tastes good except for the metal taste....kinda of like > apple cider...why the metal taste? Guest guest
are you drinking it straight from the bottle? the metal lid sometimes leaves a metallic taste around the rim, so i always pour it into a cup. other than that i have never had it taste funny. dl ________________________________ From: amyjo <ahealthynewme@...> kombucha tea Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2008 3:16:18 PM Subject: GT Daves' Raw Kombucha Original Metal taste I bought a bottle of GT Daves Raw Kombucha the Original Flavor...there is a scoby in it....I was told I could use it as my starter...When I opened the bottle (my first taste of Kombucha) it seems to have a metal taste to it...I did not have much carbonation in it...It tastes good except for the metal taste....kinda of like apple cider...why the metal taste? Guest guest
The fact that it did not have much carbonation makes me wonder if the vacuum was broken. I have never ever had a flat GT. > > > are you drinking it straight from the bottle? the metal lid sometimes leaves a metallic taste around the rim, so i always pour it into a cup. other than that i have never had it taste funny. > dl > > > > > ________________________________ > From: amyjo <ahealthynewme@...> > kombucha tea > Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2008 3:16:18 PM > Subject: GT Daves' Raw Kombucha Original Metal taste > > > > I bought a bottle of GT Daves Raw Kombucha the Original Flavor...there is a scoby in it....I was told I could use it as my starter...When I opened the bottle (my first taste of Kombucha) it seems to have a metal taste to it...I did not have much carbonation in it...It tastes good except for the metal taste....kinda of like apple cider...why the metal taste? Guest guest
LOL, On top of a very isolated mountain in Western NC. No mail service is common around these parts. So much so that the PO offers free PO boxes to all of us, Problem is I can't get there to collect my mail. I should have transportation sometime in the near future and that will change the entire ball game for me. The Upside is I don't havve to contend with all the blasted junk mail and advertising. zoe broo wrote > I am VERY curious! Where do you livethat there is no mail service? Guest guest
I also think GT's has a metal taste, my guess is they make it in stainless steel vats, don't know just a guess but every bottle of GT's I've ever had, had the same taste. I have used GT's as a starter and it works just fine. Will you get the metal taste in the batch you make? All you can do is try and see, it could be the taste is coming from the culture GT's uses to make their KT with. The batch I just made using the GT culture and tea does have a little of the metal taste to it, but not as much as GT from the bottle. Use what you have and see how it works. JimS GT Daves' Raw Kombucha Original Metal taste I bought a bottle of GT Daves Raw Kombucha the Original Flavor...there is a scoby in it....I was told I could use it as my starter...When I opened the bottle (my first taste of Kombucha) it seems to have a metal taste to it...I did not have much carbonation in it...It tastes good except for the metal taste....kinda of like apple cider...why the metal taste? Can I still use it to start my tea? thanks amyjo
