Guest guest
Hi , Enjoyed the article, although I didn't agree about growing meat without an animal or insect. I've eaten big juicy grasshoppers before. Good idea to pull the legs off first, though. They have a tendency to get stuck in the throat. LOL Some of our Mexican friends like to eat them and one day they gave us a dish to try. When you deep fat fry them, they taste about like bacon, and I'm not kidding either. I imagine crickets would be about the same. Just a goofy, illogical American mindset that insects aren't food. Thanks, Rodrick Shank Chambersburg PA The Family Cow LLC Re: HELP! One KNAT on top of mushroom! Put me in Rodrick's camp as well. Get the gnat out and move on. A gnat is not in the same camp as mold. Just a little protein is all. A great article on bugs and diet can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/6zuevy > > I'm with Rodrick - no need to panic Do you have any idea how many > gnats you will accidentally swallow in your lifetime?!?!?! Guest guest
Nay lad! I think it's pretty universal that one. Likewise horses, they eat horse " sur le continent " but our lot have a taboo. I think it's to do with regarding them as " pets " whereas cows, sheep and pigs are " food " . My philosophy is ... if somewhere in the world they call it food rather than using it to stave off hunger I'm prepared to try it. SO LONG AS I see it done first. Guest guest
Hey , Are you saying you have some pet crickets? or grubs? trained fleas? ;-) Maybe it is pretty universal NOW, but as the article pointed out, there were many other civilizations that used to eat insects. Maybe I should change it to say it's a goofy, illogical, MODERN mindset. You are probably right though. It would seem impractical to have a large meal of insects. Think of all that catching and running about you'd have to do... just to get a few. Maybe they just used them for an appetizer, or like you said, to stave off hunger. Anyway, I certainly don't think we should be worrying about a bug or two in our kt unless you have a really weak immune system. Not to offend those who mind it. Rodrick Re: Re: HELP! Guest guest
If you check the Old Testament you'll find insects are not on the approved food list, even when they are chocolate coated. <,,,,,,,,,,, ,,snip,,, ,,,,,,,,, ,> Just a goofy, illogical American mindset that insects aren't food. Guest guest
What? the Baptist ate " honey and locusts " in the wilderness. Oh, I guess that isn't Old Testament, but at least it's in the Bible. :-) His " locusts " were probably our grasshoppers. Rodrick Re: Re: HELP! One KNAT on top of mushroom! Guest guest
Guess we are ALL sinners! Guest guest
No, honey doesn't make for sweeter sin. Btw, we aren't sinning NOW by eating grasshoppers. ;-) Where did you find in the Old T. about not eating insects anyway? Hmmm.... I just found a verse on my Power Bible program that says the opposite of what you said: Le 11:22 Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. -KJV How do you explain that? I couldn't find anything against eating insects. Rodrick -this is getting interesting! Re: Re: HELP! One KNAT on top of mushroom! OT Guess we are ALL sinners! Guest guest
I am here for kombucha discussions not for religious discussions, I am sure there are a multitude of newsgroups for that. Guest guest
Precisely Don, That's why I invented a group with, currently, 12 members. It *has* no subject/affiliation and, ergo, it's impossible to go off topic. . N. England. If a group has NO topic there's no such thing as going " Off-topic " A.B.A.L.T.A.T. " Any, LEGAL, topic which other groups would consider Off-Topic. " http://uk./group/ABALTAT/ Current membership ¦;-) =12 Any advance on 12? ->->->->->->-> Don Mandeville wrote: > I am here for kombucha discussions not for religious discussions, I am sure there are a multitude of newsgroups for that. > >
