You most certainly can become addicted to sugar and caffeine.  There are studies

out there backing both sides of that coin.  Sugar in excess is bad just like

caffeine or water in excess is bad.

We listen to our bodies even when it's bad for us.  If your addited to

drugs...you will do drugs.  BUT< if you choose a healthy lifestyle and LISTEN to

your body it will guide to you to fulfill it's needs.

Just my two sense.

Rodrick, I was amused about your question, cause it never occurred to me

that someone would ever question that Kombucha was a food. I know, we

talk about 'food and drink' as kind of separate items, but strictly speaking,

anything we ingest that gives some sort of nourishment to the body deserves

the term food.

The official first definition for food is:

'Material used of plant or animal origin, that consists of essential body

nutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals,

and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy,

stimulate growth, and maintain life.

As far as I can see, Kombucha and e.g. Kefir fall well within those

parameters, Kombucha coming from the plant realm (tea and sugar) and Kefir

primarily from the animal one (cow, goat, milk), both most nourishing.

Well, I don't know about your Kombucha, but mine is certainly

zippity-doodah energising ;-)

CHeers to you!

Well Margret,

I guess if you go by these paremeters, then just about anything you eat or drink

is a food, except pure H20. I do agree with that. I think where our discrepancy

lies, is in which side we are coming from. I am not trying to say the kt is a

drug or medicine. I agree, it has a high nutritional value. It is a beverage;

it's just that most beverages are foods!

Basicly, I was just narrowing it down to the difference between a solid and a

liquid when you all were still looking a the big picture and declaring that it's

not a drug or medicine, but a food. :-)) It was my missunderstanding a much as

anybody's.

BTW Margret, *my* kombucha is very " zippity-doodah energising " too! :-)
