Guest guest
Hi !My back is no worse for doing it. It has been tight an cranky for a few weeks. Sometimes that happens and I can't really figure out why - but a lot of times, I notice it happens before an improvement occurs. Right now, oddly my upper back is getting all messed up - the chiro says it is b/c my lumbar spine is re-adjusting to a new posture so that is messing with the upper. I guess that makes sense since it is all one big chain. And, I suppose the muscles get tight/tired from holding a "new" posture - even if the "new" posture is an improvement over the old one. I've really come to the conclusion that most back pain is very vague as to its causes and cures! I read a lot of stuff on-line about different exercises to do - and I do actually do most of them during the week either in my workouts or on my own. A lot is to blame on poor core strength - but by all of my self-assessments my core is strong (I can hold a plank and a side plank for a pretty long time - I timed myself for one minute once and was able to do it and could have gone longer...) I dunno - it really is a mystery. I think I just have to adopt a new attitude about working out - I have to realize that sometimes my back is not going to be up for doing what my mind wants to do and I will just have to get better at listening to the body! What is the point of exercising if it doesn't make you feel good? that is not to say that I can't do some of my advanced workouts - I can, I just have to do them when I feel good.... Oh - as for step. It is funny, after I did the workout, I realized I didn't miss it much! I will probably do more step in the future, but I have gotten pretty comfortable with the Treadmill and and feel that I got a better workout on my TM walk than with Cathe. Of course, this was a more beginner level Cathe - but I'm not sure I want to do "crazy" Cathe all that often since, for me, if the pace is too fast and I lose concentration on my form, I mess up my back. One thing I like about is I can really focus on my form b/c the movements are so basic. So, I will probably not do too many highly choreographed or high speed step workouts. Anyway, sorry to ramble! The 2007 Series does contain a lot of the same exercises that you see on her full length DVDs - total body workout, athlete's intense stretch, etc. It is definately not a "must have" unless you are a big fan of CS! I like having the shorter workouts to add on - and since I do CS often, it is nice to have the variety. But, if CS is a once in awhile thing - then you are probably fine without them. One thing I don't like about the 2007 series so far is that almost every episode I tried has ab work in it and I really don't enjoy Miranda's ab work! It is mostly traditional ab work which I don't like to do - I much prefer Pilates and "core" stuff, standing ab work, etc. I also read somewhere that crunches place a tremendous amount of stress on the discs in your back. So maybe that is why I don't like it? I dunno! Take care!Donna From: pinkk_pussycat <pinkpussycat@...>Subject: Re: Wed - Step! Date: Thursday, September 3, 2009, 11:10 AM Yay, Donna! It will be interesting to hear how your back feels tomorrow from the change in workouts! Did doing step again feel like you were coming home? Were the Classical Stretch 2007 series worth the $ do you think? Hugs
