Guest guest
I also am a believer in good for you fats, the world has been so trained to think that everything should be low fat, have you ever looked at the ingredients of low fat half-n-half? One of the ingredients is sugar to make up for the awful taste, and then you gain weight because of the sugar!!! One thing to think about though, is when it comes to meats and fat, I only buy those meats that the animals have not been given hormones and antibiotics, as THAT is what makes you gain weight from meat with fat in it. When I buy my beef steaks or roasts, ( without the hormones and antibiotics administered to the animal) I always buy those with plenty of fat in them so that the cheaper cuts of meat are nice and tender, and the fat is what is known to give the good flavor. When we Put it on our plates, that's when we trim the excess fat off of it. Having said this about low fat food, and weight loss, I have to say though, that drinking kt has been one of the best success stories I have ever been able to tell anyone in helping with the loss of weight. When you drop the weight just by drinking a fantastic tasting drink, you CAN'T beat that. I have read though, that for extra help with weight loss with kt, you should brew it a little more towards the vinegary side, and I don't know if it is true or not, but some recommend the use of green tea rather than black if using for weight loss. Perhaps someone else knows something about this. And the other thing that is recommended is to drink it before meals when using it to lose weight, this may be helpful, but I have to say that I did lose 2 pant sizes with kt before I even knew about this, so perhaps I would have lost it faster if I had done that, although I did lose it quite quickly without that information. Guest guest
Wheras I agree that most things need either fat or sugar to flavour, i've found completely going off meat did wonders for my good and bad fat level...to the point i was told i needed to start eating more (as it hit the unhealthy limit of being too low in the blood, both of 'em), despite regularly cooking in olive oil! (i'm a vegetarian) . So if its a health concern, you might want to look into veggie meals for a day or two a week (i'm not trying to convert you) Caitilin On Tue, Jul 8, 2008 at 2:01 AM, Jeani <countryrose_ak@...> wrote: > > I also am a believer in good for you fats, the world has been so trained to > think that everything should be low fat, have you ever looked at the > ingredients of low fat half-n-half? Guest guest
Not trying to convert you either Caitlin, lol! But I have found that some people do better on a vegetarian diet, others lean towards vegetarian, and do better, and then there are those that do MUCH better physically with meat in their diet, such as myself, and although I don't worry overly with cholesterol levels, my cholesterol levels have gone lower with eating more meats, I think that everybody's body is different, as I know my body personally couldn't handle a vegetarian diet. It may have to do with the blood type, as I have read the Blood Type diet, and I have to say, I did find that I felt the best on the diet for my blood type (blood type O) with plenty of meats. I don't crave sweets and breads, I crave protein. Also, I used to use olive oil to cook in until I read that when you cook with it, it turns into trans fatty acids, and so now I cook with virgin Coconut oil, as it has a much higher heat allowance and isn't so readily converted to the bad fats. I still use olive oil for salads and such, (try a dressing with olive oil and kt, now that's somethin' good!!!) And so healthy for you, not only do you have the good for you fats from the olive oil when not heated, you also have the wonderful benefits of kt in your salad, and the good for you fats and kt are both helping with weight loss. Jeani, a confirmed meat eater for my good health!!! Guest guest
Oh absolutely, everyone's body is different! I was just amazed to see the results, so if it was a concern i thought it was worth passing on. I've found as a rule its the poeple who benefit from vitamin B who do well with meat, so i sometimes wonder if its just my limited sample, or if there really is a link, but as vit B is in kombucha too, i wonder, if you get my drift. Hm. interesting yours has gone lower, what do you eat, chicken? pork? everything? I'll def take the point about coconut oil and give that a try next time i'm cooking instead - hey, anyting to keep the trans fats away! (and i can use the olive for soap too ;-) ) I'm A+ if it helps any, so that may be wehre the difference lies, though i've never heard of that diet? I generally do a low GI thing as I have PCOS and it seems to make me feel better. *Grins* its nice to be able to disagree in a respecting way! Hmm. I wonder what a kombucha and (pick your meat or beans) caserole a la a guiness caserole would taste like? Guest guest
The book says that people with blood type A do better with a vegetarian diet. My husband is A negative, and he can and wants to eat homemade granola with kefir for breakfast (although I try to give him a variety for breakfast) His blood sugar is fine, he does well. Me on the other hand can not function on granola for breakfast. Even though there is protein in kefir, in just a very short while, I am very tired and probably grumpy! lol! Although if I have homemade pancakes for breakfast, I do notice a difference if I drink some kt for breakfast, I'll at least last an hour and a half, or so! lol!!! I will occassionally have some granola as a " treat " in the evening, like twice a year-lol! And I really do like granola, but I have to have eggs, and/or sausage, etc, you get MY drift-for breakfast or I fall apart!! I also have to have B vitamins, which is in both kt and kefir. And yes, I eat it all deary-hah! Chicken, pork, seafood, bacon, fish, beef etc, they ALL have GOOD for you FATS, as long as it is wild caught or antibiotic and hormone free!!! So many people gain weight on regular meat sold in a grocery store from the estrogen and other hormones given to the animal, and they don't even realize it, and farm raised fish and seafood also has the hormones given to them in their feed, to make them grow faster. IF you are one of the lucky ones whose metabalism runs fast enough it may not affect you, but it is so bad for your health. Actually if you say so, we agree to disagree, however, like I said, I don't disbelieve that some people do better on vegetarian diets. If they do, often times, you will find that they are blood type A, and already have tendencies toward being a vegetarian before they ever converted over. I have a friend who is blood type A, and when I explained it to her, she said " that's why I am never hungry for meat! " And of course there are those who have converted over to vegetarianism just believing that it is good for their health. If I remember right, the other blood types fall kind of in between. It was really interesting, not sure if I believe everything in the book, but a lot of it sure made sense!! Not sure what a kombucha beans and or meat cassarole would taste like, I rarely make cassaroles!!! lol!! Not many cravings for carbohydrates, and not much for sugary things that's for sure, although we do eat plenty of brown jasmine rice and colored potatoes, and some spelt pasta, and I really like the taste of putting 100% unrconstituted juice in the bottom of my bottles when I bottle up-hah!!! Course I suppose you could always make baked beans with kt vinegar, brown sugar (organic, for this girl!) and mustard!!! (Is that a cassarole? I don't think so, it sounds good, but my recipe with sausage in the beans sounds and is much better tasting to me! lol!! Jeani Oh absolutely, everyone's body is different! Guest guest
Jeani, have you ever tried groundhog yet? (seriously now) Maybe you don't have any up there in Alaska. Btw, the kt batch from your scoby seems to be coming along nicely. The other one that I may have damaged with my " liquid " has *many* bubbles. Guest guest
Nope, no groundhogs here-too cold for em' I'll leave that for you to try! Bubbles are good, it's what helps make the end product carbonated. Hopefully your first batch made from a thick scoby will taste better than mine did. Mine was still a weird type of slightly sweet after 14 days of brewing, and it started getting vinegary around the 7th day. So it really was affected by the length of travel it took for it to get here. Guest guest
Btw, we already have tried them. There not bad at all. Why would they be? They eat grass like a cow. About the kt, I think it must be because I used herbal teas for the first scoby but it really has a weird smell and just will not make a scoby other than a very thin one. We'll just wait and see what happens. Rodrick RE: re: (unknown) (OT-kefir) Now weight loss with ktAnd yes, I eat it all deary-hah! Guest guest
Hi, Sorry for the short reply - i'm off on business in belfast for three dyas, home for an evening and hten off to holland! If i heat up kombucha with some beans, and make a caserole..would i lose the good stuff, aka the microflora? I suspect so. So I asked my friend the biologist, who suggested, yes you'd lose the adult good stuff, but the spores etc, would still be viable as thats how they et through stomach acid as well i'm going to try a caserole on sunday maybe. And thanks for hte info! Caitilin On Wed, Jul 9, 2008 at 4:44 AM, Jeani <countryrose_ak@...> wrote: > > The book says that people with blood type A do better with a vegetarian > diet.
