Guest guest
Lactulose is a synthetic sugar used to treat constipation. It is broken down in the colon into products that pull water out from the body and into the colon. This water softens stools. Lactulose is also used to reduce the amount of ammonia in the blood of patients with liver disease. It works by drawing ammonia from the blood into the colon where it is removed from the body. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. How should this medicine be used?Return to top Lactulose comes as liquid to take by mouth. It usually is taken once a day for treatment of constipation and three or four times a day for liver disease. Your prescription label tells you how much medicine to take at each dose. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take lactulose exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a682338.html De -----Original Message----- From: Hepatitis CSupportGroupForDummies [mailto:Hepatitis CSupportGroupForDummies ] On Behalf Of Davies Sent: Saturday, February 25, 2006 7:00 PM Hepatitis CSupportGroupForDummies Subject: Re: Lactulose in Real Terms Can someone explain to me exactly what is lactulose, I thing it is something for constipation? Guest guest
Good Description, !! I probably would have said it really gives you the runs, don't plan on long trips, KNOW where the EXIT to the Restrooms are in your regular haunts. This is a little graphic, but we are all adults here and it IS a MAJOR problem!! Once you THINK you are done in the RR stall, (ONLY DO THE NEXT STEPS! nothing else!!!)).. stand up, count one mssissippi, two miss. etc. to ten.(not outloud). Sit down, wait one minute or so and repeat process, then file your report.(do the paper work!!), You may need to repeat from beginning... I 'm really serious about knowing where the RR are. Trust ME!!.You do not want an unfortunate situation happen to you in public. Especially with kids around... when your wearing shorts.... If you can't make it.. but by the grace of GOD DO make it, Thank Him!.... ALOT!! And wipe the sweat off your face! I do not pass up a chance to go to the RR. Remember some people will actually deny you access even if you tell them you are on meds and you know where their kids go to school!! JOKE!! Hourly paid employee's have denied access because of the customer only policy. I (once) have thrown down money on the counter and said I'll take that candy bar, I'm a customer, give me the key to the RR. It is a good drug, to me it tastes like Maple Syrple, and probably is making it possible for my "support" organs to not be damaged because they are trying to help and the Liver keeps callin' in sick! Guest guest
I haven’t had the lactulose myself, but I can compare it (in a small way) to being pregnant and needing to know where all the RRs are. But then, my first kid was over 9 lbs. & ripped my sphincter. Then I REALLY needed to know where they were for a long time till it healed. I don’t envy any of you lactulose folks. Guest guest
Lactulose is not prescription in Canada. Anyone can buy it over the counter but if my doctor prescribed it my Disability would pay for it.
