Ben, age 13, takes it in the morning. We eased him into it, which was necessary

after taking him off risperdal. That was hellish- not so much the abilify

addition

I take Geodon, also an anti-psychotic such as Abilify. I prefer to take it at night time because it sedates me. If I take it in the daytime, I often need to take a nap. Also, I sleep about twelve hours a day because of the meds. Abilify caused anxiety and hyperactivity. The nighttime dose made him stay away until 2 am and lick and bite his lips. I think I would try the am dose unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor. He or she would be the best for instruction.

They should start low and titrate up. Autistic kids don't seem to need as much as other people because their systems are so sensitive. My son started taking Abilify when he was 18. It hasn't been a good drug for him because of side effects but I understand it works well for some people.
