CSAAC's Executive Director, Ian Paregol, comments on the news. "At CSAAC, we have suspected these numbers would be going higher and now we know for sure. The question now is: what can we do? The answer, in part, is that early intervention therapies - getting to children by the age of 2 or 3 as soon as they exhibit signs of autism - is what will help these kids have better outcomes later in life. That helps the children directly and it reduces our health care costs. Unfortunately, many US states - including land - have not passed legislation obligating insurance companies to pay for this needed therapy. Insurance carriers may be saving money in the short term, but are dramatically increasing costs later on in that individuals life and therefore driving their own long term exposure higher. It's unbelievably short-sighted." ----------------------------------------------- About CSAAC- CSAAC operates 52 community living residences for children and adults with autism, two school sites, an early intervention program, an in-home support program for families, and a vocational program for adults.
