Guest guest
Well, we are back home with Abby and I am afraid that i don't have very good news. When Abby's doctor took her last cast off in February, he told us then that he didn't think she would need any more casting. Well, we were supposed to take Abby's brace off this morning about 4 hours before her appointment to see if her spine would move or if it would stay straight. Well, when they took her X-Ray today, her spine had moved. The X-ray showed it being at 28 degrees (it was 3.8 in the brace). And on top of this, her doctor said that because it moved so much in just 4 hours that he is wanting to do another series of casting on her beginning in the fall. He wants to do at least 3 more casts and then see what happens after that. We are so discouraged and frustrated. Has anyone else had this happen? I have cried most of the day. I could really use some encouragement. , Mom of Abby
Guest guest
,First of all im so sorry. I feel your pain. We saw our scoli doc today and got discouraging news. My son has been cast/brace free since December 2010. He has been holding steady at 8 degrees. Today for what ever reason he was at 25. Crap. We will xray again in a few mos and if worse we will cast again. My son will be 4 by then. I had an all out fit! I wanted to punch someone in the face! But who?? Now that i have calmed down i remember how scoliosis is a unpredictable piece of unfair crap disease/condition. Have a pity party. I know i did. But when it comes down to it we are strong mommas and we will put our big girl panties on and kick some scoli butt!!! We may be down but we are not out! We have casting when others before us didnt. We have trained docs when others before us didnt. We all have each other when others didnt. Keep your head up and fight!!!! I know you will because as moms thats just what we do.Hugs to you, mom to IsaiahSent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE DROID Re: Very Nervous Well, we are back home with Abby and I am afraid that i don't have very good news. Guest guest
,So sorry. With her moving that much that quickly, I would think she should be able to move back very quickly too. Guest guest
Im sorry to hear this . Im glad the doc is willing to cast again. Cast breaks are good if you're casting to hold, not cure. ET w/ Mehta casting is most effective when done in solid blocks of time with no significant breaks. ie; if you have a child that is still growing and is low 30's or below odds are (if done properly) a solid block of mehta casts has the ability to resolve the curve(s). If that series is removed prematurely, theres a good chance these curves will return in subsequent growth spurts because the spine and tissues/muscles havent had enough time to relearn how to grow in the most correct position.... Ide still hold out hope for a long, solid series of mehta casts. Ive seen it do wonders for older children with higher curves...even if its a way to buy time, maintain alignment of hips, thorax, shoulders, reduce cosmetic deformity, and maintain lung volumes. Hang tough . Press on for more casting if thats what your gut is telling you:) Im here if you need me. HRH > Well, we are back home with Abby and I am afraid that i don't have very > good news.
