Guest guest
My guess would be pressure from the cast especially as the kids start to outgrow the cast and it gets tighter. We never had much bruising, but I think that is because he never got to a point in any of his casts where it got tight due to growth. Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) Bruising I've seen a few mentions (and pictures) of kiddos with bruising when the casts are removed. For those who spoke with Miss Mehta, did she say what causes that? and I were discussing it and can't figure out what would be the root of it. I have my calendula on hand still from the abrasions on Jack's neck post-casting, and I will bring along the Arnica should we discover bruising. Just wondering if anyone knew *why*. Thanks! Guest guest
Tasha, Very interesting to hear that had bruising after his 6th cast. Same with Max. He never had any bruising until his 6th cast. We, too, used the Canadula gel. I put it one after bath/before bed, by the next morning, not one sign of bruising. Plus, I'm sure the blood was able to circulate better. Aekta > I've seen a few mentions (and pictures) of kiddos with bruising when > the casts are removed. Guest guest
Yes it sounds like they need to look at his platelets. Some meds can cause bruising but otherwise there are mormal patterns of bruising for kids like shins that you would expect on kids but just rough housing should not cause bruises that easily I do not think. BARBIE Bruising Hello, I have noticed that my son has started bruising pretty easily lately. Should I tell the dr or be concerned? He has about 35 fingerprint bruises on his arms where he and his cousin were wrestling last night. This has never happened before, maybe one or two, but not 35 or more! ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
YES you should.? My son has had ITP which means the platelet count is low and can be one source of bruising. Guest guest
One more thing, if his platelets are low, then getting hurt, hit, etc., is a problem.? He shouldn't be doing any kind of rough housing until the doctor checks the platelets.? I don't mean to be an alarmist, but we went through the bruising thing and that is how we ended up getting diag. with the CVID.? I would actually contact the doctor on call and see if you need to go in to the ER. Good-luck...Pam Bruising Hello, I have noticed that my son has started bruising pretty easily lately. Guest guest
Hello all! I have a friend whose daughter just got her first cast removed. They did it at home(the doc said this was ok) she has brusing on her side as well as a 4inch " gash " . She also has bruising around the cut out in the stomach area. She is very upset about this. I told her I would ask you all about this. She has not had a chance to get on here yet. I have not experienced any thing like this Thanks so much! Marina Mom to in cast #2!! Guest guest
I had a bit of bruising around Kylie's cut out and edges of her cast on some of the casts. They were never any issue and were not present with each cast. They were usually gone within a few days. We also have seen some "scratches" inside Kylie's cast and I"m SURE she has been putting objects in there to itch. (She's 3 so has the dexterity to be able to do this) but again, no issues. On 19 Jul 2012, at 11:04, jogen30 wrote: Hello all! I have a friend whose daughter just got her first cast removed. Guest guest
We see bruising and red skin a lot when we remove Logan's casts...but no gashes. Since they took it off at home (which is what we do) we were told if we see any kind of sore or breakdown (I assume a gash would fit here) to call them. My suggestion would be to call their doctor first and they will probably want to look at it, or have another doc to look at it. - Logan's mama 45 down to 7, cast #14, 3 years old From: jogen30 <jogen30@...>infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Thursday, July 19, 2012 11:04 AMSubject: Bruising Hello all! Guest guest
Levi had busing after his first cast also. A big purplish area on the side where the cast was pushing & then lots of red irritation & such around the cut out in the front & waist. His belly button was also full of " cheese " I called it. (dead skin that settled since it couldn't be washed out) It made his little belly button very raw & irritated. I opted to soak him in the tub instead of trying to clean it out with a wash cloth since it only made it worse. After this I learned that changing the knit rite shirt 1 every week & pulling out the belly button & cleaning it really helped. While there is always a little redness & irritation none of the following casts were as tough as that first one. We greased him up with Aquifer & Neosporin (right in the belly button) & the worst was gone by the next morning. I would definitively call the doc & discuss the gash. Maybe even send a pic if she travels far for care? We didn't have any gashes but the busing & irritation didn't stop Levi from getting a new cast that very next morning. Amber > Hello all!
