Hi Zehava,

I didnt realize lil Binyamin had congenital scoli...This changes my view a

bit. I think its wonderful that Shriners in Philly decided to cast a

congenital case and I hope this is a trend we begin to see across the U.S.

& globe. As we all know, a plaster cast cannot cure a congenital

abnormality, but it can be an avenue to maintain and/or correct a bit, buy

growth time, maintain alignment, maintain/improve lung volume, etc...

I certainly understand your reservations on transferring to a brace. That

being said, I think Philly's plan isn't all that bad. Many congenital

cases progress slow and perhaps the doc in Philly is wanting to appreciate

lil Binyamins pattern of progression before he makes a commitment to have

him in casts continually. Fingers crossed lil B.'s scoli is the slow

progressing type. If thats the case, then a summer break for him to swim

and play normally may be a good plan. I cant speak for the doc but Im

guessing if Binyamin does progress in brace, then he will probably be

recasted immediately, as to not loose any ground... (?) Please have this

discussion with his treating surgeon and go from there.

And~ please keep us posted. You're doing great and being a bit

apprehensive about this is completely normal.

Sincerely,

HRH
