There are a lot of questions there lets see if I can help with some of

them. yes 90% resolve but that being said most times that isn't the case

for many of the parents who end up on this group. Do you have an RVAD #?

That helps predict if the curve might progress or not. Under 20 RVAD

might resolve over 20 RVAD might progress. That being said my sons RVAD

measured at SLC Shriners was only 10 but because of the 15-20 degrees of

rotation the doc said his experience told him the curve would

progress....we casted the next day. No not 1 year but rather there is the

greatest chance of a cure if casted under the age of 2 & under 50 degrees

(? I might be off on the degree there it could be 60, someone else will

have to chime in). My son was casted at exactly 20 months old & at 31*

with 15-20* rotation. He is in his 4th cast from SLC Shriner's & is held

at 10* no rotation in this last cast. He will get a brace at the end of

July & the hope is that will provide more correction. If he holds steady

he will be braced for a year & then possibly done with treatment. There

are many Shriner's hospitals not all do Metha casting. I don't know the

complete list of who does or doesn't. We love SLC & they do, in fact they

were one of the first if not the first in the USA to do so. When we were

making our decision we decided that following Metha's techniques, having

the proper equipment, & being very experienced were at the top of our list

in deciding a treatment center. 2nd was proximity. I hope that helps a

little bit!

Hello,What you need for a start is good diagnosis. Try to be as rational as you can (I know by myself it's diffcult). Contacting was very good move for a start.1. 16 degrees Cobb angle in an age of 10,5M means you have quite a good chance it will resolve on its own. But that's not the only measure - that's why someone experienced should look at the x-ray. Is it long/short curve, what is the RVAD, is there a rib hump, is there a rotation, and many other questions to be answered.2. There is no strict date by which the baby should be casted. It's said that 2 years is such border (0-2 is the period of the most rapid growth). If scoliosis is truly

idiopathic then the perspectives are very good and there are cases of older children successfully casted. The crucial thing is the prognosis - if the scoliosis is progressive or is suppoused to progress the baby should be casted immediately (the earlier the better).I keep my fingers crossed that's gonna be the resolving one.MP From: <davelainer@...> infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Friday, June 29, 2012 12:03 AM Subject: Daughter now 10 1/2 months and won't be seen until October

Hi all,

Well Rosie is now 10 1/2 months old and we still haven't seen the orthopedic surgeon here in B.C Canada. Appointment in October. Her x-ray with arms raised showed a 16 degree curve but that was 2 months ago now. I was just curious, is the most likely outcome that her condition will self resolve without having to be cast? I worry every day that too much time is passing by. Aren't babies supposed to be cast by 1 year? We have requested a copy of her x-ray and has offered to have somebody at one of the Shriner's hospital look at it. So as soon as it arrives I will be sending it to her.

With regards to Shriner's Hospitals. When I contacted them about getting Rosie in their files, they asked me which hospital I wanted to apply to. How do I decide which doctor I want her to see? I find it very overwhelming as this is such a huge decision to make. I don't know the first thing about any of the doctor's. I've heard good things about Salt Lake City, would this be the best place to apply to? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I really don't know how to figure this out. Thanks so much.

Thank so much Amber and MP. You have both been extremely helpful. I was not too

familiar with rotation Amber so will make sure that it gets checked. Are you

able to tell me who cast your son at SLC? Maybe we can't mention particular

names on this forum? If not, can I PM you? As I said, I am having such a hard

time knowing which hospital I should choose and of course which doctor. I'm so

glad that you are having success with your little boys casts, that is wonderful

to hear.

I wish you and your family the very best!

Thanks MP for outlining the information that is needed for a good diagnosis. I'm

glad that the age range is 0-2 years, I feel more relaxed knowing that. It is

frustrating as the whole process in B.C takes much longer than in the States it

seems. I'm glad that we have the option of travelling down to the States if it

seems necessary to start treatment sooner. I appreciate that you respond to my

questions each time, thanks so much.

I seem to be having some trouble getting this post up so I've tried again. Hope

it doesn't appear too many times!
