Guest guest
Hi We don't have one in a brace but I used to work on an orthopaedic kids ward.We used to suggest a dose on Panadol or nurofen- I think in the US it's Tylenol, for the first night or 2 to help minimise any pain/discomfortWould this help??Meagan Sent from my iPhoneOn 03/08/2012, at 8:56 AM, "STACEE" <sstevenson1975@...> wrote: Hi Everyone...I really need your help. We received our brace to start implementing last Friday - gradually increasing the time my son has the cast on, until it is on for 22 - 23 hours per day. Last night was our first overnight, and it was not good. We are on holidays, so he was not in his bed, and was probably over tired, but what a mess. He woke up every 20 - 30 minutes grabbing at the brace, and saying it hurt. He could not communicate what was bothering him, other than pointing at the spots we know are pressure points. He is 4 years old, and has been so amazing with everything. I hate to see him suffer. We were supposed to have it on for 8 hours last night, and he only made it to 3. We have been progressing well with it during the day, he doesn't notice when he is busy. If anyone has had a similar experience, and would be willing to offer up suggestions I would appreciate it. I spent most of the night just watching him to make sure he is OK. I have also called the orthotic clinic to see if they can help out, but as parents we know best what works. Thanks again for you support...Stacee
Guest guest
Our son was transitioned from cast to brace in June and the first couple weeks were NOT good. I suggest you get some Childrens Tylenol to help you through it AND go back in for a brace adjustment if needed. We had our brace adjusted a few times. We also had a lot of troble at night at first. Just be patient. It will take awhile to break in. Tame Sent from my iPhone On Aug 2, 2012, at 5:56 PM, " STACEE " <sstevenson1975@...> wrote: Hi Everyone... I really need your help. Guest guest
Thanks Tame - you know exactly how this feels. We are using Tyleno, and the pain reliever they gave us after his cast. We will definitely be going back if it continues. Touch wood, he is sleeping soundly right now. We put the brace on a little earlier, and we gave him some Tyleno before bed. Thanks for all of your help. Guest guest
Thanks Meaghan, I am in Canada, and I have resorted to the medication we used during his first casting to ease the pain. The brace is just another adjustment, but its so hard to watch him. Sleeping soundly right now...cross your fingers for me. Guest guest
Another trick that works for some is to put the brace on a bit more loosely at first - and then once the child is in a deep sleep, tighten it to where it needs to be. Good luck! > > > Â > >Hi Everyone... > > > >I really need your help. Guest guest
I actually slept with my son the first few nights so when he started crying out I could resituate him and rub his body a bit to alleviate the pain. He went in the brace June 7 and we went through an entire bottle of Tylenol!!! I am not a parent that distributes meds freely, but it was needed. He is still sore in the morning and often asks for a break from his brace. I would say the first 2 weeks were the worst and by 1 month it was better. He wore a brace from age 2-4 and it wasn't a big deal. Then he was cast 4-5 1/2. I wasn't expecting transition bzck to be such a big hairy deal:) but it was! It will get better- promise. Just look for redmarks on his back when brace is off. I think rule of thumb is if they don't disappear in 20 minutes or if they feel hot to the touch adjustment is needed. Ben wears his 20+ hours a day.TameSent from my iPhoneOn Aug 2, 2012, at 11:08 PM, STACEE STEVENSON <sstevenson1975@...> wrote: Thanks Tame - you know exactly how this feels.
