Guest guest
My Shane is my 4th child and the only one with Infantile Idiopathic Scoliosis. Nobody else in my family or my husbands had scoliosis. And I NEVER breastfed ANY of my kids. So, there goes that theory out the window. No reason to make nursing parents feel guilty. Add this to the list of all the things that are mom’s fault…plus if you actually nurse your baby, there’s a “right†way and a “wrong†way? Aren’t we all neurotic enough? My gut feeling is there is a strong genetic component that simply hasn’t been found yet. I've never heard of this before. I could see how nursing positions could possibly worsen a curve, but cause it, no. I'm just speaking from my own experience, but my daughter Ella who has PIS is my fourth child. My fourth child to be completely breastfed. My older 3 were all nursed the exact same way as she is (she's still nursing). You get used to doing it a certain way and yet none of my older children developed infantile scoliosis, so I don't have a doubt in my mind that nursing did not cause Ella's PIS. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't even think of a position you'd hold your child in that could cause their spine to curve in any way other than normal. I would desperately hope that the suggestion that nursing positions could lead to/cause infantile scoliosis would not scare some mothers away from nursing either! Ella's PIS is idiopathic, but they "guessed" that since I'm fairly small and she was long at birth that maybe she was bent wrong in the womb. Just a guess. I wonder if that's where the nursing positions comes from, a guess?Momma to Ella, 8 months old, cast #3 applied 5/21>> Hello,> I just came across these sites that mention a possible connection between the position that you nurse your baby in and infantile scoliosis.
