Guest guest
Hi All, I’m trying to figure out a non-chocolate birthday cake for my son who turns 3 end of month. I’ve found this strawberry vanilla recipe that has my attention (this style or a vanilla cake with strawberry frosting would also work) but I don’t do many modifications (let alone bake) and don’t know how to translate this recipe towards into something I could serve to my family with pride/minimal guilt. I was wondering if any bakers out there could give me a hand and/or share a favorite cake recipe? My son does not like chocolate so I’m forced towards a vanilla (?) hence I think I’m willing to compromise on an unrefined white flower since I doubt even white wheat berries would work with this recipe (?). I’m wondering if I could use applesauce instead of the granulated sugar? And I’m having a heart attack with the confectioner’s sugar – What can I use instead? I was considering doing a whip cream with some vanilla extract, but I’m thinking the cake would be too heavy in general so that idea might throw the balance off. *maybe* some 1T of maple syrup or honey?
