Which eggs do you want for breakfast?

Check out the new photo on our home page. It's from an accidental discovery I

made that was caused by running out of the amazing free-range happy eggs from

CASTLE ROCK CREAMERY in the middle of serving a large breakfast for guests. I

needed something fast so I dashed to Lund's and bought the very best " certified

organic " eggs on the shelf. Sadly, the Lund's eggs were the same price as the

farm eggs! (BTW, my farmer got 100% of my money, instead of 50%).

Unlike the proud, bright-orange-yolked CR eggs, the factory-organic eggs were

pale and flat in the bowl. Ugg. Once in the skillet with butter they would

hardly scramble. More gummy than light and fluffy. It took almost twice as long

to cook them, they stuck to the pan, and then, as you can see, they were pale

in the serving plate.

We had a houseful of guests not used to NT food but every single person was

shocked at the hideous quality of the store-bought eggs! You couldn't miss it,

gummy texture and basically zero flavor! Meanwhile everyone was fighting over

the awesome eggs! Raving about them!

We are so disappointed in Lund's reluctance to seek quality food, local food or

organic food. When they begrudgingly carry something organic, they tend to jack

the price up as if they are angry that they have to carry it. I've been watching

them for years and for years have made helpful suggestions especially at the

store that is one block from my house!

Sure, it's a bit unfair to criticize a " supermarket " but yet we are starting to

see very interesting changes with other chain stores, especially from smaller

outfits like the much-improved Kowalski's Supermarkets! Lunds = Luddites when

it comes to good local wholesome food. We can't do much except by voting with

our dollars. We only shop there if it's an " emergency " . It goes far beyond the

eggs.
