Guest guest
We are blessed to live in an area with plenty of places to go camping and experience nature. I'll quote from A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold. " There are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. One is the danger of supposing that breakfast comes from the grocery, and the other is that heat comes from the furnace. To avoid the first danger, one should plant a garden, preferably where there is no grocer to confuse the issue. To avoid the second, he should lay in a split of good oak on andirons, preferably where there is no furnace, and let it warm his shins while a February blizzard tosses then trees outside. If one has cut, split, hauled and piled his own good oak, and let his mind work awhile, he will remember about where the heat comes from, and with a wealth of detail denied to those who spend a weekend in town astride the radiator. " We had a fun experience recently. We harvested a snapping turtle. I hadn't done that since I was a teen on my grandpa's farm. We fried up turtle nuggets in good lard, ate fresh picked sweet corn and other garden veggies. The fields were alive with butterflies and hummingbirds. The forest leaves were just starting to turn, hinting that fall is coming. This is a great time of year to get out in nature. Bring your camera and make memories!
