Guest guest
I am considering PMMA treatment for my face and was re-reading posts on this board by people who went to Dr. Serra in Brazil and those who went to Dr. Casavantes in Tijuana. Can't decide which is the better way to go. In terms of money, Dr. Serra's fees are lower but you have to pay for a trip to Rio which costs a lot. Getting to Dr. Casavantes is a cheap trip but his fees are much higher. So it's a wash there. What I'm wondering though is the quality level. Don't know why, but I just don't really trust the idea of getting medical treatment across the boarder in Tijuana. Dr. Serra on the other hand has presented his work at international AIDS conferences and is a legitimate expert in his field. Any thoughts on one doctor vs. the other? And, by chance is there anyone on the board who's had experience with both docs so can make a fair comparison? Thanks, Jess.
Guest guest
Hello I got treated for butt wasting and it really changed the way I look, unfortunately I am out of money to finish the procedure…I would not hesitate if I had the money…PMMA has a long history of being used in the body with no significant problems that either did not fix themselves (remiss spontaneously) or could be treated…additionally all the problems that ever showed up were very minor according to Dr. Lemperle the great German medical researcher who discovered the uses of PMMA for soft tissue reconstruction. In fact Dr. Lemperle had injected PMMA into his own body as a test some 30 years ago and has never had a problem from it. That’s a significant clinical history. It’s the technique Casavantes uses with the canula and the deeper IM and sub-fascia implant that evidently prevents the lumps and unevenness we have seen occasionally with shallow injections of PMMA. Legal, legit PMMA has been safe and effective in tens of thousands of patients. The micro-canula is also not painful like the hundreds of needle sticks that other providers like Dr. Serra in Brazil employ. We can never be 100% sure about anything in life (especially me), but I can say that with PMMA I am not unduly concerned about serious complications down the road…My confidence is so much so that I have had my biceps and triceps and deltoids also treated with PMMA a few months ago. Yes it looks amazing. Muscle augmentation by the way should ONLY be done with microcanula. Any attempt to implant fillers of any sort with needles would be disastrous as it would tear arteries and nerves to shreds not to mention the muscle itself. Canula are blunted and cannot tear through delicate tissues like sharp needles. Now I want to warn you personally about home-brewed “PMMA” that some outfits sell at a greatly reduced price. The reason the prices are so cheap in places that call themselves “esthetic spas and clinics”, is that they make the product themselves. So what they make for pennies, they sell it for many thousands of dollars. I would not trust home-brewed products that are made of unknown substances in secret garages and industrial warehouses that not even the Mexican government knows where they are. By the way, Dr. Pierone informs me that the term ‘Home Brewed’ is a medical term to describe a non-professionally made medically used product that is not supervised and licensed by any governing body or follows any medical/legal standards. Basically garage made crap. And there is a lot of it out there…you can read on the internet how to make PMMA at home yourself and where to buy the raw materials. Except it won’t be near as safe, effect or legal like the genuine medical article: ArteFill, Artecoll, New Plastic and Metacrill. These four brands are all more expensive then the home-brewed crap because they are all legitimate legal products made in pharmaceutical laboratories and plants. Leaving aside the differences between these products, and there are significant, they are all legally produced in real medical labs. I have for the most part kept my mouth shut about the problems I have seen with home-brewed products because it seemed for a while that the problems with Home Brew PMMA were not that severe, but the horrific damages inflicted on human beings that I have recently seen makes me feel that ‘Home-Brewers’ should be condemned for doing human experimentation without informed patient consent and no disclosure of what the hell it is they are getting injected. And all this just to make money. Shameful. Sometimes in my darkest moods I think to myself that the owners of these esthetic spas and clinics are soulless creatures like Dr. Mangele who also experimented with injections into human beings. Al Benson From: notify [mailto:notify ] On Behalf Of Sent: Thursday, March 19, 2009 9:50 AM Al Subject: Re:Dr. Serra vs. Dr. Casavantes for PMMA Al, My concern are the long term effects of getting the PMMA by Dr. Casavantes injected into the buttocks for augmentation. I am scared that I'll have some adverse reaction 10 years down the road and will be screwed. I am only 34 years old and my butt has gotten very flat - no matter what type of squats I do, it simply does not get better... so i have been looking into this. I have a price from /Wade already, but am just nervous of the long term effects. I guess there is no guarantee.
