Guest guest
Hiya Everyone, Since my husband's MELD is at 28 I will also give you a quick insight of a few other factors they do not tell you with the scores. It's hard to explain in total detail but when you are hospitalized for enceph or tapped for ascities, there is alot those sites do not tell you. My husbands score topped last week at 28 after he was hospitalized for dehydration from to high a direuretic and when he became totally toxic from no bowel movements. When your liver can no longer remove the toxins and you do not have a bowel movement, and they now have him up to 3-5 a day it kind of backs up, the toxins, this means that your liver cannot process hardly anything so your meld then goes up again, it also affects your kidneys no matter how good they are working. They tapped him today for 20lbs, 9.87 litres of fluid from his belly. Now, he has no edema, so this meld thing is odd, if you get infection with your asities your spot on the transplant list is on hold, still have a spot but cannot be transplanted. When your meld changes, your spot changes but you go to 0 waiting time again. Approx 4 weeks ago he was 5th to be transplanted, being hospitalized helps his meld but they wait for tests for infection to re-acctivate him again. I'm sorry this is long winded but MELD has so many different positions putting in 3 blood test results only finds you a bit of information, if I didn't make sense I'm sorry, I tried to explain it the best way I could by typing it....all the info on these web sites are correct but they do not factor in many different ways your MELD rises, drops or changes on waiting times. ESLD is not something to mess with in any way shape or form...it's scarey, it's unrelenting and it's constant....and for anyone who knows anything about ESLD...God Bless Lactulose.....!! Hugs, P.S. Our bags are packed...we are alert....and feel very fortunate my husband has been this healthy. Only 90 days ago his bilirubin was 25...today it was 310...so the liver is an organ to preserve and handle with care....elizabethnv1 <elizabethnv1@...> wrote: I find it's quicker for me to go to the lab and get the results ,They fax results to the doc but usually it takes time for him to get to them so I beat him to the punch line lol. My MELD score is also 12 right now and every month when they recheck it I pray it will go down . I hope you have a happy new year MELD SCORES Ive seen a few folks talk about MELD (Model Endstage Liver Desease). My Doctors here in Fort Myers, FL, have indicated that this score is the pivotal test to determine needs of transplant. Here, your score must be 15/higher to be eligible for a place on the transplant list, Mine a month ago was 12, and I'm due another blood test any day now. I insist that My Doctor put my name and address on the blood test request. I always get the results in a few days. Than I go to the following 2 web sites to plug in the numbers needed. You'll need to make sure that your Doc has put on the prescription that he'll get the following three results, as well as the rest of the typical items on a bloodtest. CreatinumBilirubinINRO.K., here are links to the 2 websites I use (Results vary a point or 2)http://www.thedrugmonitor.com/meld.htmlhttp://www.mayoclinic.org/gi-rst/mayomodel7.htmlIt's good to know what the Doc's may not tell you! __________________________________________________
