Guest guest
So I thought I was doing great when I bought Lifeway brand Kefir from the Mississippi Market. Now as I'm reading the Weston Price guide it says don't buy from the store (also there's evaporated can juice). Anyway, I then bought a Yogourmet kefir stater and thought that was better but then I read about homemade kefir. So how bad is it that I'm drinking the stuff from the store and is the starter in a box bad as well? Or should I say nutritiously deficient. What are your thoughts? Sincerely, Lyn
Guest guest
Lyn, That stuff in the stores is not the best, neither is the stuff in the box. The best is the reculturable GRAINS. But what you have is probably better than nothing. I will have more grains in about a week, I accidentally fed most of them to my baby goats when I forgot to strain the milk. So if you have not found any by next Thursday, zap me an e-mail and if you can meet up I will give you some if no one else on the list has any to share. > > So I thought I was doing great when I bought Lifeway brand Kefir from the Mississippi Market. Guest guest
But is there also a difference between water kefir and milk kefir or am I mistaken about that or is there such a thing as water kefir, for some reason I thought I've heard of it recently. Did American's ever drink kefir? Sincerely, Lyn
Guest guest
Yep, there is a difference between water kefir and milk kefir. I put milk kefir in smoothies or make " ice cream " from it, water kefir I tend to mix with juices. The grains or crystals are different too. Lots of info on the net if someone doesn't answer here.
