Belinda, 's helmet had the airholes since we picked it up so I'm

not really sure. I'm not sure why the helmet comes down around his

cheeks, I assumed to hold it on, but I will definitely ask and pass

this info on after my appointment on wed. He hasn't started to itch

on the top, he only itches when it is off. I will be posting some

more pictures of his helmet for everyone to see. Dana (PA)

Pat,

Thanks for posting the pic. All the babies are so sweet!

Is there a chin strap that helps to hold this helmet on, maybe just at night,

or is it pretty snug w/o any additional help? How well did your son adjust

to wearing the helmet? Belinda, you said your helmet is different? How is

it different? Do you have a pic posted of your little one? I didn't think I

had seen one, but I'm sure I could have missed it.

I'm curious how long it is taking all the babies to adjust to wearing the

helmets/bands until they are up to or close to the 23 hours per day? Is it

generally taking about a week? We have our first evaluation on Thursday so

I'm still full of questions and short on help for others :<(.

Thanks. Robyn

Pat....I love the " Blues Clues " theme. He is a cutie. How exactly

does this type of helmet work. It's quite different from my sons.

Belinda,

The helmet is split down the back (you can probably see the crack in the

photo) and has velcro holding it together. That is to facilitate taking the

helmet off.(HA-- had the whole thing removed the first time he wore it

over night because Mom forgot the chin strap.) The front sides have velcro

for attaching a chin strap at night. has to go every 2 weeks to be

checked. The inside of the helmet is shaved as his head grows. He seems to

have adjusted quite well. Pat

Thanks Pat. I've also started sending info to all the folks that I know that

are expecting littles ones and have asked them to continue to spread the

word. Hopefully it won't be long and no one will leave the hospital w/o

knowing how to prevent this w/o comprimising the great strides to reduce SIDS.

Robyn...NO I do not have pix posted yet. My sons helmet only has one velcro

strap on side opposite flatness. He does not have a chin strap or strap at

the top. His helmet only goes down on face not even lower than ear lobe. We

have been very lucky with wearing time. He has worn it almost 24/7 since the

day we picked it up. Belinda (indiana)

Belinda -

Thanks for the information. Glad to hear that your son is wearing his helmet

w/o problems. I hope we are as fortunate. We go to the doc tomorrow and I'm

already very nervous. I'm finishing up my list of questions to take along.

I think someone said this today already about checking your brain at the door

when you go in to see the doc and forgetting everything you wanted to ask.

That would surely be me w/o a written list.

Robyn,

Yes, the helmet has a chin strap that is attached at night. has

adjusted quickly. It only took a few days before he slept with it on

all night. My daughter ( is my grandson) kept him up a little

late that first night as suggested by someone on this site, so he was

very sleepy.

I have written a letter and e-mailed it to all my friends and relatives,

attaching the " Back Sleeping " article which Pat Mc posted last

week and photos of in his helmet. I've asked them to forward the

" Back Sleeping " letter to everyone they know with a baby or an expected

one. The internet is great for spreading the word!

Good luck to you. You are right--all the babies are so precious and

cute! Pat (Massachusetts)
