Guest guest
I have some bad news for you if you're in search of " not outrageously expensive " whey protein and want to buy something that's true to source, contains all the good stuff of raw milk/whey and is highly bioavailable. Of course, it really depends on what you mean by " outrageously expensive " in the first place. I stared a mission in 2005 to find high quality whey for myself and my clients. The requirements included 1) sourced from raw milk 2) contain no other ingredients - none - the label must only read: whey! 2) taste like fresh milk. I'm not sure how many products I've looked at, but to this day I know of less than 5 that pass the test. The rest, IMHO, are garbage. They're either waste products of Big Cheese from WI or are actually high quality but contain flavorings, fillers, etc. You have to ask yourself: why is there soy if the product is sound? We know soy is used as a anti-caking agent and damaged whey protein loves to stick to itself. And why the need for the other " stuff? " What does is really taste like on its own absent that delicious " passion berry pizzaz " flavor? Right now, I'm down to two that meet the above and are less than $40/lb. There a few " pharmaceutical grade " whey protein powders used in the treatment of AIDS, cancer, etc but they're only available through MD's and are very expensive. Designs For Health's Whey Cool Well Wisdom's Vital Whey and ImmunoPro Both products are concentrates, not isolates and are primary/native proteins (taken from raw milk directly, not sourced from pasteurized cheese/milk). Concentrates tend to have all the other good stuff in higher concentration: lactoferrin, immunoglobulins, BSA, etc. Concentrates don't mix as easily with milk and tend to be much denser by volume than isolates. I'm not going to make an argument which method is superior as the proof is definitely in the pudding at the end of the day. You can buy Whey Cool from DFH directly through Amazon, but you'll pay full retail ($70 per 2# container). Otherwise, you can get better pricing if you find a rep/distributor (I can help you out if need be). Wilderness Family Naturals used to carry Well Wisdom products but I'm not sure if they do anymore. Otherwise, you can order Vital Whey directly though their website...wellwisdom.com. Hope that helps.
Guest guest
Proteinfactory.com sells bulk whey, you pick the type, ingredients, quality, amount. amazing selection. bulk bags, no plastic buckets (yay!) and high quality. if you want smaller amounts, but high quality, use.... Jay Robb protein. They also use NZ whey that's grass fed, when possible. they at least admit that when the supply is low they resort to non-hormone USA milk for their supply. here's one http://www.amazon.com/Jay-Robb-Enterprises-Tropical-Dreamsicle/dp/B0001OP0QO/ref\ =sr_1_13?ie=UTF8 & qid=1334864570 & sr=8-13 Their flavors are also amazing and blend extremely well. no artificial things and I like the taste. I would be remiss if I didn't say that the WAPF doesn't endorse isolated protein sources. it can make you deficient in vitamin A and is a refined, non-whole food. Just saying. > > Does anyone have a good and not outrageously expensive source for powdered whey protein? Something that can be bought in bulk would be great. Do any farmers or coops carry this in bulk? I will be adding this to smoothies for something easy to eat on the go. > > Is there a better more absorb-able type of whey isolate to use? Has anyone made this themselves at home from excess whey? If so, I'd love to hear about the process. Any experience on using whey protein in the powdered form would be appreciated. > TIA, > Faith >
