from Donna - her computer tried to commit suicide, so you won't hear

from her until she gets it up and running.

from me - Dr K's office called today and rescheduled my batwing surgery

for THIS Friday. My dear DS Friend Donna will drive me over on Thursday

and home on Saturday. Are we excited??????

====================

Could go on Saturday! And of course we would have to do lunch. I

kinda plan on going Saturday anyway to see Woodlake . And

since I'm on that subject....I went to see her today. I was able to

talk to her and she was able to nod her head....she understood

perfectly...but they had just been messing with her and had given

her meds to make her relax...so I didn't stay long....I'm hoping

that by Sat. she will be off the vent.

Dang! I didn't read this until today! I know you've already had

your surgery Bobbe, but I hope it goes really well. I'm thinking

about you and keeping you in my prayers!

The hardest part of this is still accepting that he had this closet

drinking problem, and that it was so bad it has almost killed him.

I've heard of this happening, but I wonder if he would have felt pain

and thus have known something was going wrong.

Apparantly he wasn't responding to phone calls so his ex-wife and

kids went over there to check on him. They entered his apartment and

found him unconscious and not revivable.

I think I will stop talking about it here.

Yes, thanks for the update. I'll probably be having to do this with

my father as well one of these days.

Thanks for letting us know about your friend.

Did no one know he was drinking? Not even you?

A neighbor I had drank even after he had liver problems, then it was said he had liver cancer, so he kept on drinking and still did for several years. Still likely does after moving. Seldom was a sober observation made of him, he was always drunk. When people are in the hospital I don't visit them or feel sympathy, superficial. When my father goes in the hospital again concerning heart disease, I don't care much either. Death is just a passing of the flesh, the spirit is the memory that exists in other peoples minds of him or her.Seems superficial. environmental1st2003 <no_reply > wrote: For anyone who is interested.... My friend who has liver failure and who was in the ICU has been stabilized to the extent that they can stabilize him and has now been packed off to a nursing home. The good news is he seems to have brief moments of lucidity now as opposed to permanent semi-consciousness. But chances are all this medical assistance has done for him is lengthen the amount of time it will take for his liver to fail. We'll see what happens. But hey, at least as long as he is in the nursing home he can't drink alcohol, right? Tom Administrator

Not even me.

A glass or two of wine at parties was his limited, or else maybe a

beer.

He's not lucid enough for me to be able to ask if he was taking

Tylenol with the alcohol. Although judging from how much he'd been

drinking, he must have had some nasty hangovers.

Tom

Had he by any chance also been taking tylenol (acetominophin)?

Acetominophin can cause liver failure by itself, often in doses

smaller than you would imagine. Combined with alcohol of course

increases its deadliness so if he was a regular tylenol user, or

even one time mixing it with alcohol could also have caused liver

failure, he may not have been drinking as much as you think. Just a

thought, but the suddenness of the liver failure makes me wonder if

it was more than alcohol.

Everyone be very careful with tylenol. It's not commonly known, but

it is the cause of most emergency room visits, overdoses, liver

failures, and death.

I'm sorry for your loss, Tom, but now you at least have time to say

goodbye.

Sorry to hear that... My little sister died of primary liver cancer

back in early Oct... They had found it nearly 2 years earlier and

gave her a couple of months to live... the chemo and radiation had

been effective but a couple months before she died she was in a

fairly minor car accident and got bounced around... no obvious

injuries beyond some bruises but it ruptured the " capsule " were the

cancer was contained and it spread quickly...
