A few years ago there was an outbreak at my daughter's school. I think something

like 12 kids had it! And I'm thinking all were vaccinated. (A major problem with

the vaccine is that vaxed kids often still get it, yet are asymptomatic, so they

spread it unknowingly to others.

3)

Anyway, during this outbreak, I just kept up with the normal WAPF diet. I did do

a little research and intended to kick up the garlic in our diets and use more

red palm oil. But honestly we didn't go hog wild. (Garlic is a big

infection-fighter of course and red palm oil has loads of beta-carotene which

promotes healthy epithelial cells (cells in lungs)).

I have heard of people holding/biting a garlic clove gently in their molars for

hours to treat pertussis. But for a kiddo (or even me), I'd probably slather on

GOOT or use a garlic poultice. (GOOT is just a mash of garlic, coconut oil, and

olive oil; straining out the chunks). It's my go-to remedy for just about

anything.

It's probabaly worth being sure all aspects of health are covered: fresh

air/activity, great sleep, nutrition, hand washing etc. I recently started

having us all see a chiropractor regularly. I think that would be a good immune

booster for your family. (Incidently Dr Kuznia at mindbodychiropractic.com has a

great family membership program.)

We sailed through the outbreak with no illness. I hope you guys do too. But it

is wise to be prepared.

I had whooping cough at age 6 back in the '50s. The only thing that worked to

break whatever was happening in my chest were mustard plasters. My mother said

she tried everything up to that point that she knew of and someone suggested

these. I remember them burning on my chest and sweating a lot.

We just had whooping cough at my house…. my son (16 y/o) got it at school. I

have a new-found appreciation for how serious it can be. I found it quite

alarming, as did my son. He still gets occasional coughing spasms 11 weeks after

getting sick.

I did a fair amount of research to see what might help from the Western medicine

side to augment natural medicine. If one knows they have been exposed and start

coming down with EARLY symptoms, antibiotics can help avoid progression to full-

blown disease. Once the full cough starts, conventional treatment is much less

helpful. By the way, the CDC and Mayo websites had some pretty good info on it

and seemed honest in acknowledging the limitations in treatment. People do die

(usually infants) or get other serious complications from whooping cough and

it's called the 100 day cough because of how long it can last.

We had our best results from homeopathy, helped by osteopathic manipulation. We

went through several remedies before finding one that really helped. The spasms

of the larynx and diaphragm that come with pertussis can be helped some by

manipulative treatment to calm the nervous system reflexes in those areas.

Homeopaths have a number of remedies that can help, but since each person reacts

differently, there is no one remedy that is the best one.

I would definitely recommend trying to prevent it. Good luck in avoiding it.

My daughters had it and it was completely not a big deal once we knew what

it was and knew what we were dealing with. Getting a diagnosis was very

difficult. My weak vaxed child was coughing for 3 months and it took a long

time for her lungs to heal. My mostly non vaxed daughter was well within

6-8 weeks. During that time, the weaker daughter, who had it much worse

than the mostly non vaxced child, was susectpible to respiratory infections.

You do want to avoid this if you have an infant, or immune compromised, or

eldery anyone in the house. Although we did give it to my 75 year old

mother who was in a concurrent car accident, and she was sick for about 6

weeks along with some severe injuries from the accident. Perhaps she would

have been assymptomatic if she did not have the accident.

Antibiotics are worthless. By the time you get a diagnosis, the infection

has cleared. The coughing is due to damage caused by the bacteria which is

now gone but whose damage is left. Since the bacteria is gone, antobiotics

do nothing good and just harm your gut flora which further compromises your

immune health.

Once you have had it, you have natural immunity which means your body is

capable of fighting it without you getting sick again by natural means.

However, our brilliant MDA will try to tell you that you must get the

vaccine immediately. It makes absolutely no sense and goes to prove that

they are there to push vaccines, are not there to care about public health,

and do not understand communicable disease transmission. Even my Dr looked

like MDA must be clueless with such recommendations. (The look on her face

was priceless.)

We did lots of antinflammatories and lots of water and went off mucus

producing foods (wheat and dairy.) Lots of rest and immune boosting

supplements, especially respiratory support supplements. A lot of rest.

Expect to be out of commission for several weeks. Use the time to build

relationships and rest at home.

Once we got through this, my daughters have had stellar health since

fighting this off. No strep, no flus, rarely colds. If your child is well

enough to get this, it is an excellent way to boost immunity.

As for avoiding it, I had gotten lazy about demanding the girls take

probiotics and supplements, and being summer and travel, their diets were

not excellent. I am guessing that is part of the reason they contracted it.

I'm currently studying to become a master herbalist through 'The School of

Natural Healing' (Dr. R started this school). I'm reading a

book called Dr. Mom's Healthy Living. She's a master Herbalist from the same

school. Here's what she did for her daughter who came down with whooping cough

at the age of two. It took four months total, but she did not realize what she

was dealing with until they were six weeks into it. She started researching (she

was still in school learning about natural therapies) and did the following.

She enclosed a 4-poster bed with sheets and rubber bands and set up a hot water

vaporizer with eucalyptus oil inside the 'tent'.

Recipe for Dr. Shook syrup: Two ounces marshmallow root, two ounces garden

thyme, one quart distilled water. Slowly simmer the herbs in the distilled water

until reduced to one pint, strain, press, return to saucepan and add two pounds

brown sugar (substitute honey if desired), simmer 5 minutes. Skim off scum as it

rises, cool, bottle and keep in a cool place. For children, use 1 tsp. for

cough.

She used the cough formula each night and rubbed her chest and back down with

lobelia, mullein oil, and anti-spasmatic tincture to help relax the spasms. They

were finally able to get sleep.

The last stages of the disease, she threw up whatever she had eaten for dinner.

The turning point was rubbing her down with olive oil 2 to 3 times per day (to

feed the system) and gave her raw goat's milk which helped stimulate her

digestive system (live enzymes).

Anti-Spasmatic Tincture (Dr. ) - skullcap, lobelia, cayenne,

valerian, skunk cabbage, myrrh gum, black cohosh.

To be used in cases of convulsions, fainting, cramps, delirium, muscle spasms,

tremors, and hysteria. This formula is also good for pyorrhea, mouth sores,

coughs, throat infections, and tonsillitis.

It does not state the parts used for each herb, but tinctures are in a base of

either grain alcohol or vegetable glycerin. You can search for 'Dr.

Anti-Spasmatic' and find out where you can purchase it.

She later found out that another 2 year old came down with whooping cough at the

same time. They had visited relatives and both girls were exposed. The other

girl was in the hospital for awhile and later returned to the hospital with

pneumonia. 10 months after getting the disease, she was still on antibiotics for

all of the secondary infections and would be on them for 3 to 6 months more.

I'm on level 3 for the school...so the first stages. There are 22 levels total.

So far, I highly recommend the following books:

Dr. Mom's Healthy Living - K Livingston Ellis, M.H.

How to Raise a Healthy Child...In Spite of Your Doctor - S. Mendelsohn,

M.D.

Vaccines - Are They Really Safe & Effective? - Neil Z.

Hi,

, the local Amish women with 9 children and none are vaccinated, used

colostrum when the whooping cough came thru. Her family did not get it the

first time around. She said she just lined them up and gave them each a

spoonful. She did not have colostrum the next time it came thru and they all

got it but none very badly. Her children are ages 5 to 21 I think, something

like that.

She said she does not know if the colostrum prevented the whooping cough from

getting her family sick but they were the only ones who did not get it at that

time.

There is a herbal remedy for the whooping cough as well, I am sure there is a

list of homeopaths who could help with that.

Some of our family had it this fall. We'd echo that homeopathy was the most

helpful. There's also a lot of very helpful information at this website from

the University of land Medical Center. I like that they include nutrition,

herbs, homeopathy in their treatment options

http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/pertussis-000128.htm

I'd add antimonium crud. to the homeopathy list after our experience.

Stay well!
