Guest guest
Here's more info: What We Serve The food we strive to serve is as natural as possible. Chef wants to serve the same quality of food in the restaurant as he would serve to his own family and friends. The TORTILLAS served at brunch are hand made upon ordering. Making a perfect tortilla is an art, not just anyone can do it! The COFFEE we serve is organic, shade grown, certified free trade. It is roasted especially for La Bistro by Alakef Coffee of Duluth, MN. The BACON is from Fischer Family Farms Pork in Waseca, MN. They produce all natural pork products that are hormone and growth stimulant free. The CHORIZO is made right at La . Our Chorizo is a Mexican Style chorizo that is ground (instead of chunks of meat like in Europe), spiced and smoked. The pork used in the Chorizo also comes from Fischer Family Farms Pork. All SAUCES/SALSAS are made daily at La . Everything is made fresh and from natural ingredients. The DAIRY & EGGS used are organic. The PASTA is made by hand at La daily with organic ingredients. The MEATS served are all hormone free and/or organic. Chef chooses the freshest FRUITS and VEGETABLES. He supports local farmers as much as possible. He changes the menu according to what is readily available during the different seasons. Try the fresh squeezed juices, smoothies and liquados at brunch! We feature various WINES and BEER that are organic. > > > > I've been on a kick lately trying to complete all of the restaurants on my to-do list. Last week, I had a memorable experience at Gardens of Salonica and thought for sure someone would have added it to the TFMN restaurant database by now (I just added it!). > > > > Have any of you discovered this treasure of a restaurant? > > > > Gardens of Salonica is in NE Mpls and has been open for 21 years. I never heard of it until sometime in the last year. They serve traditional and modern greek cuisine and emphasize using local and organic ingredients wherever possible. > > > > Lots of interesting artwork to look at inside and outside of the restaurant (all created by one local artist) and this place that's kid-friendly, too. > > > > The dish I had I would DEFINITELY order again...it was called Orzo Arni. You can replace the orzo w/ green runner beans. I typically don't swoon over green beans, but I did over these! This dish included local braised lamb and green runner beans that had been simmered in a delicious red sauce; topped with sheep's milk kefalotyri cheese. Surprisingly filling, too! > > > > By the way, ALL OF US can add our great finds of restaurants in the " Local Restaurants We Like " section if you click on the " Database " link on the TFMN homepage. > > >
