It will be my first anime convention (though I did go to Megacon one year because was a speaker.) I hope you and your son have a great time! There have been several groups of fans who got enough courage for like making magazines and the such here, but they didn't lasted much, same happened with the programmed reunions. People ceased to TRY to do them here because they are simply a failure. Many kids and adults want to go, but only adults manage to, since the families here doesn't let kids to go to the places because they think this is satanic stuff or that they are spending their money in stupidities and SEX. Can you believe it? Is really frustrating... Without mentioning that this genre, here, technically lacks any kind of female audience, so is common to say that " otakus " here are " girlfriendless geeks " ... However, even when you supposedly find people who like what you like, there is a high tendency in the net to find people who really doesn't have ANYTHING to say about what you are seeking, and yet they are in the group, and I am afraid this is the case of the most. I have been in several anime themed mail lists and forums, and also IRC channels... they only say random stupidities without any link to anime or manga. His friends are planning to get together this weekend to put the finishing touches on them so mabey I can squeeze some info out then. I have been able to find a few anime series that I hadn't been able to locate otherwise, as well as a few figures from anime series. They also have a lot comic books and graphic novels, but I'm not really interested in those like I used to be. One of the record stores does carry anime, mostly the currently popular ones and lots of the Gundum genre. However, they have carry almost as much hentai as they do anime, which is rather disappointing. I'm sure there are black markets around here too, but that would mostly be for things like drugs and stolen guns so I have never bothered to look into that kind of thing. You can find guns and drugs, but find a lot more simplistic and harmless stuff around, such as DVDs, PSX games, and some tech artifacts, specially spare parts for computers and similar stuff, as well as cracked software. Since there are no game distributors here on Perú, going to the black market is the only choice when it comes to get games for your PSX or PS2. Same happens with computer games. As well, the only source of anime is the black market, and mangas are really rare here. Only a few re-sellers have them, mainly people who buy them on USA or Japan, and send them here. Now, regarding Hentai specifically, nothing much good comes around here either. One has to be a really aknowledged and appraiser of good art when it comes to search for them, and the NET is the best choice in this case. Jano C.
