Guest guest
DONE! THANK YOU FOR SENDING THIS OUT. I've asked for a meeting as well. If I don't hear from them in a week, I will call to make sure they know I'm serious. Putting this on FB right now! Thank you. Everyone! Please just send a quick letter or email, even if you don't drink raw milk. SO important!!!! - > > Hi fellow foodies, > > Did you know raw milk has always been a legal food in MN, enjoyed for generations, but there's an outdated law on the books from the 1940s saying you have to drive to the farm to get it, and only occasionally? Now's our chance to really help the situation because there's a bill that would fix the old restrictions and improve access by giving farmers the freedom to deliver to customers, drop sites, etc. if they want to. This is not a retail bill -- it simply provides for private delivery like other farm foods. > > JUST THINK, farmers could deliver fresh milk/cheese/butter/yogurt etc. to drop sites, homes, etc. legally and without harassment! Pick any of the possible points, like less govt interference in our personal choices, the economic boon for family farms due to the big price difference, stewardship of the land through promotion of grass-based farming, reduced health care costs (did you see that recent study from Europe showing raw milk reduces asthma and allergies?). Or how about less govt spending on enforcing an old law. Most important is to say why it's important to you personally and to your family. > > I just put a document with possible talking points and legislator contact info in the Files section, if you want something to refer to. Look for " MN Raw Milk Bill flier 2012 " . Please consider speaking up and doing your part to pass it. > > Cheers, > Beth >

Guest guest
Thank you for this encouragement!!! Very cool story. > > Thanks for the GREAT information Beth! > > I actually had a house meeting with my Rep a month ago. > I had 15 people there who were either raw milk drinkers or supportive and curious neighbors. The meeting lasted 90 minutes. We told Rep. Downey how raw milk is ALREADY LEGAL TO CONSUME but access to it is restrictive and the laws are outdated. We had a lively discussion and actually a lot of fun. > The best part happened a week later when I saw him at a local coffee shop and he ran up to me to tell me he SIGNED on as a co-sponsor on the bill!!! > Democracy and freedom and liberty do still exist in America. > Don't let the naysayers fool you. Every voice can make a difference and remember that the legislators work for us. Speak up and contact the politicians and tell them you want access to your milk! >
Guest guest
Thanks for this great reminder Beth! If we want to continue to receive rich, nutrient dense food it's time to take action and be CHANGE MAKERS. I've had a house meeting with my Senator and Representative and it's crucial over the next couple of weeks for others to do the same. If you can't meet with them in person, get your friends and family to flood the phone lines and send emails asking for support of the Raw Milk Access Bill. made an important comment--THE LEGISLATORS WORK FOR US! I have posted a document in the Files section called 'House Meeting Guidelines'. It steps you through hosting a house meeting. You are not alone in this fight. I would be happy to be present for your meeting! Guest guest
Just wanted to say that I am taking it on as my personal responsibility to make sure that my legislators are on board with the raw milk bill. Rep. Kieffer has been a co-signer since last year, but Sen. Ted Lillie still needs some work. Please let me know if you are an east-sider who wants to be in on a meeting with him. Or just write him a letter. Also many/most of us care about access to raw milk, but although that is the issue THIS time, next time it might be something different and possibly even MORE near and dear to your heart. We ALL need to be pushing for food freedom (and health freedom as well)! If you want more information on these issues and how you can help, there is a nonprofit organization for this called Minnesota Natural Health Legal Reform Project! See the website at MNHLRP.org. Guest guest
Just a couple more thoughts... I just wanted to emphasize the fast-approaching deadline of March 16, so if you care about this issue, please speak up now. And ask friends and family in other parts of the state to contact their local legislators and the governor in the next 1-2 weeks. Also, here's an article about the bill, published in the last issue of the WAPF Wise Traditions journal: http://www.realmilk.com/minnesota-raw-milk-access-bill.html
Guest guest
I agree with Kathy. Even if you don't drink raw milk, you can still meet with your Rep and Senator or at least write a letter and tell them that food rights and access to healthy foods are important to you. Also, if you are in District 46, Brooklyn Center/Brooklyn park, please contact me. Our meeting is Friday March 2 at 7pm. Super excited!!!!! > > Just wanted to say that I am taking it on as my personal responsibility to make sure that my legislators are on board with the raw milk bill. Rep.
