So we received a fun cookbook as a Christmas present which I thought I'd share

with the list! Part of our journey with Little House on the Prairie series, it's

The Little House Cookbook by Barbara M. .

Not NT, but a fascinating historical read with plenty of traditional pioneer

recipes. Also, I think a lot of you would have fun with recipes such as Roast

Stuffed Goose, Pot Roast of Ox (with ox tails), Chicken Pie, Swedish Crackers,

Husk Tomato Preserves, Stewed Jack Rabbit and Dumplings, Poundcake, Custard Pie,

Molasses on Snow Candies, Spit-Roasted Wild Duck, and Pancake Men. It covers a

bit of cooking game, one or two sourdough recipes, directions on lard,

cracklings, homemade sausage, butter, and cheese. I am a total American folk

history junkie and find it fascinating, but those who do more meat and organs

that we do might find it more interesting for the recipes and techniques even if

they aren't such history buffs. Also, a good one to do with kids, especially if

you read the Little House series with them.

It also has a traditional mincemeat recipe in it with beef, pork, and suet.

willing to share your recipe?

I would be interested. If so, e-mail me off-list
